That's another good idea. Since everything is working now, I'll probably do that if I can't find the disk this weekend. The Vaio worked fine under XP...but the Vista upgrade? Yech!

I hope you can find the Cds needed to go back to XP. But I don't see why Sony won't help you out. Do you have a local Sony Style shop?

Yes, there's one in the Beverly Center in Los Angeles. Do you think they'd have XP there?

The big Vaio is a really good machine, but the proprietary stuff on it can be a pain. I do think that I'll refrain from buying a new computer though. My Vaio UX180 (the handtop) is handling the Reader 505 really well. It's just a lot of squinting to see the tiny screen - but until now I really hadn't found a use for it. Being the "mother ship" for the 505 makes me feel somewhat less silly for purchasing it a year ago.

I don't know if they can give you XP. But what they might be able to do is give you restore discs to get back to the state the machine was in when purchased. So before you install anything like XP or from restore discs, backup any data you will need/want to keep.
