There are innumerable reports in the Kindle forum of this occurring; I'm not making it up

I don't doubt your veracity, but I do doubt that it happens universally. Certainly I have never been hit with it since I got my first K2, though I admit I'm not completely typical of someone who is completely fabricating a US address/account. I actually have a US credit card, and a US mailbox accomodation address. I get quite a few things shipped to that US mailbox address and periodically my work requires me to go to the US. But I also have a Canadian address, credit card, and get stuff shipped here from both Amazon.com and Amazon.ca. For the sake of book availability, I have my Kindle account as a US account.

I was an American living in Germany, with a US credit card, US mailing address, and the United States set as my location. None of that mattered if I tried to add something to the cart with my German IP address. With the VPN in place, the free promotional books were free and I could see books only available in the US.

Thanks all.
I'm computer savy, but, I do not see the need to try and get around the country thing. Looking at the kobo, the screen is just as nice. Smudges may be a small concern but when it comes to the ereader, it's about the books. Availability is a huge concern for me. I will miss my Kindle (Just bought it two days ago), and the 3G access as I do travel. But, alas, the Kobo is the winner. Though, I am now quite informed about E-Readers. ![]() |
