I've gotten alot of good books this way. When mistakes were made with several books by one publisher mark them free and then corrected an hour later to a normal price I still got them for free when they were released and wasn't charged anything.

Absolutely. Amazon won't charge you more than the price it was listed at when you put in the order.

The publisher can cancel the book and relist (but, I've even received those when the other ASIN was released). So far, dozens (literally, perhaps near 100) of books that were $0.00 when I bought them and were not free when they were delivered. Never paid a penny.

They need a credit card because all Amazon pre-orders use a credit card and the programmers were too lazy to program in an exception for a $0.00 order. (Speaking as a programmer, I am somewhat of an expert on that sort of thing).
