Let's see what Sony comes up with this time! I expect wi-fi capability - screen like the PRS505

Yes, but this device was not made available to everyone so making this standard in the devices that are available in other countries would be really nice. Perhaps the intent was to try it out first on the 950.
I would guess there won't be huge changes to the readers other than wifi. My son's kobo touch has wifi and it really is nice to have. My Dad wants to get a reader for my mom this year and I think it would need to have that capability as she would not want to have to go on the computer to load books. I know she has never updated her ipod via the computer and has someone else do that. It would be nice if you could change fonts on the fly like kobo as well. At the moment that only works for purchased books but you can use any font you want. I installed the fonts I like on his kobo and we just updated the settings as to which font he wants to use. Then if we download a book via wifi it automatically uses that font. Nice feature. Anyways, I guess time will tell! Jodi |

There are those who have no need for wifi/3G, do not want it, and will actively seek devices without it.
The question is, does Sony want to be like everyone else, or do things their own way. And considering they seem to be selling more readers than they can make, what is the upside to being a sheep? |

Agree. I just posted earlier about the same in another thread. I really don't care if I have wi-fi or an expansion slot on my 350. But if Sony did add either or both to their smallest reader, it wouldn't make me not buy the reader. I doubt I'd ever use the wi-fi though. But again, not a deal breaker if those items are included in a reader that has everything else I want.

I really doubt such a small unit cost at this point is gonna be passed onto the customer if they left it out (and depending on the chips they pick, would be in the hardware anyhow). |

Perhaps more sales and an end to the complaints that Sony isn't providing what every other major (in U.S.) maker is providing. Remember that all the reviewer comments downgraded the Sony Readers for lack of wifi, ignoring how much better the Sonys were in all other matters. The sole focus was on Sony's lack of wifi/3G and Kindle's having it. Nothing else seems to have mattered to the tech reviewers with the result that Sony didn't get the market share its devices deserved based on quality.

A mass market selling point seems to be to have wifi connectivity (whether some people like that or not). Ergo, it seems extremely likely Sony's next models will have it in order to try and fight back against the Kindle. mass market don't see "the Sony seems better build quality", the public sees "wow, no computer needed!".
Wifi does nothing for me at all but then I'm comfortable using a computer. But if I was in charge of the new Sonys I'd be making sure they have wifi... |
