You will no doubt learn even more as you continue to edit the other books and you might discover things that you wish you did with the previous ones.

Also, it might be a good idea to use the same artist for all the covers if this is a series. It might be easier to get covers that look consistent by doing that. Also, if you have good experience with her already, why risk using someone else?
Yeah, the plan was to use the same basic template for all the books. Just changing the text and pictures to reflect each volume. I told the woman who did the cover to save the template. Good point about getting ahead of it and prepping all of them first.

You're using a universal template design for each cover of the book? Hmm, that's rather interesting, as I've seen other authors do that. In fact, that was suggested for the cover design for my next four books since they're all part of the same series.

I'm not a fan of it. As an author, I can see the benefit of having the book instantly be recognizable as part of the same series, but as a reader, it just looks to me like the author was too cheap to organize separate covers for each book.

I'd be curious to hear what others think.

I think it has more to do with consistency than laziness in most cases. For a few, yes, I will agree that it's laziness. But if it's a very, very well designed cover, I'd immediately think that it was for consistency or a unified theme. If the cover looks cheap/lazy/etc, then I'd vote for the other.

Yeah, I never really thought it would be perceived as lazy. I hope that's not true for too many people. My biggest fear is that it would look to much like an encyclopedia.
