Does ADE ever ask for name and credit card number? I thought perhaps they changed ADE to satisfy B&N's DRM for Kobo devices. Then sideload the freed ebook.

Of course this would work for all epub devices, if this is true.

I tried to download a free B&N book into ADE. Although my B&N account is registered to the same email address as ADE and I keyed my credit card into B&N, when I added the book to ADE I received the error "Document is licensed for a different user account" and I cannot open it in ADE.

I can import it into calibre, but again can't read it because of the DRM. There are ways round this, but in the meantime I may stick to kobobooks or Amazon instead.

I tried to load B&N books on my KT that were DRMed and it was a no go. The only way I could get it to work was with the help of Gordon Shumway the apprentice. Maybe the team at Kobo will update the KT ADE software to allow B&N DRM.
I know it is a competitor but I have a lot of nookbooks I would like to read on the KT.
The KT is my go to reader and I like their store but there are some books that kobobooks.com does not carry and if I have to get them from B&N I would want to still read them on my KT.

Adobe is in the process of updating ADE. A "preview" of version 1.8 is on the website for download but it isn't fully functional. Release notes claim 1.8 can open B&N ebooks. But ereader sideloading will be added later. We don't know whether this includes the Nook or not.

The current version of ADE (1.7) will not open B&N books. The preview version of ADE (1.8) will open/fulfill them but does not have any device support.

But at least on other devices that support opening of B&N DRM books, you don't need ADE, once you have an ePub file: just copy it to the device, and when you open, it will ask for the username/password (which in this case is the B&N user name and credit card number used to purchase). These credentials will be hashed/stored and used for any other books which use the same credentials. It should work the same on Kobo Touch, assuming it does in fact enable support for B&N books.

I wonder why not? It's perfectly legal in Canada to remove DRM for fair dealing purposes. And my understanding is that's where this site is hosted.
