The original is automatically used every time you run a conversion with that format as input

Ah ok, the way that I was planning on using this was to keep an original_epub as an archive and change the css and mess with the standard epub before I converted it to mobi. If something messed up I could start over with the original.

I guess this is mainly useful for just epub to epub conversions, not archiving the original while you mess with an editable copy like I thought.

You can always copy the original book entry (create an empty book, then merge into it with "keep others") then play in the copy. However, if your ebook is correct, why would you want to change it to support a better MOBI ? Why not change the conversion setting for the EPUB->MOBI conversion so that both the EPUB and MOBI end up being correct? If the EPUB is not correct, then do EPUB->EPUB until it is correct, then delete the ORIGINAL_EPUB.

Awesome, thanks Kovid! I've wanted this too. Sometimes I get a decent conversion to something, but then I need to run epub->epub to do some experimental tweaking. So I start saving copies in other places so I can roll back one version if I much it up worse.

Will update right away.
