I tend to use Redbox (Walmart) or Blockbuster (Pubix) for DVD renting so I just dropped the DVD part. I will not miss it. I don't even use the streaming much but every once in awhile I want to do an entire season of a show. I did that with most of the Doctor Who and started to do Dexter. I may drop the streaming as well in the future but I do like having it on my iPad. Maybe I'll give Hulu+ a try.

Cheap at twice the price! My one month trial has not even expired, and I've already watched back seasons of several series that I like, which would have cost a couple of hunderd dollars if I had to buy the DVDs.
The only problem is that it's cutting into my reading time! ![]() |

I've been a customer since 2000. i dropped the DVD thing a few years ago, strictly streaming now. The kids have their own account and they stream (PG rated or less) on their PS3 and Wii.

Um...when double the old price is still a really good value, obviously.
I'm not thrilled about the increase of course (and NF has screwed me over once before, years ago with an unfair increase, and they made up for it) but I acknowledge costs go up, it costs money to keep those DVDs shipping in good condition, and Netflix's catalog of available disks, especially the older and obscure stuff I tend to get (or those few missing TV episodes that always seem to be unavailable on streaming...), is just not really available anywhere else. So if I can continue to afford it and they continue to keep the service up, I'll continue to get it. If I was only interested in recent blockbusters. I'd probably drop it and use Redbox. I also have many On Demand services available, but, heck, two new releases costs as much as a whole month of NF DVDs even under the new rates. ApK |

That is true, Netflix has to keep in business, and I could swear I heard somewhere that the streaming portion was running at a loss so it's understandable that they'll charge more for it and the cost for the 1 DVD at a time is reasonable. In a way it's good they're doing this. I've have the 1 DVD thing since joining last October and have had 5 DVDs shipped to me since then. Which works out to $4 for each rental which is reasonable since none of the DVDs would have been in Redbox or Blockbuster stores (based on $2 more each month for the DVD vs Streaming only).

netflix has to pay for the dvds only once...then can rent them out as much as they want. for the digital streaming library they need to pay a fee for the rights, which last the length on the contract. |

Alsol add in that the DVDs cost money to replace when they are damaged, and the have a postal expense every time they are rented. So there are recurring costs with each, just different ones.

Hopefully, Netflix will survive any bumps in the road it may face. Their service is really too good to see go the way of Blockbusters or the Do-Do. They've been great for hard to find movies, out of print titles, and "Complete Season" DVDs of TV shows.
On a related note: "Breaking Bad" is the best show on TV. |

I had no idea the price was going up. That's my husband's territory. We mostly use the streaming, but not all the movies are available that way (yet?).

You also forot to remove I don't subscribe to Netflix. That totally skews the results and has no need to be there. Get a mod to remove it and you will then have proper results.
