There's a block downtown where the afternoon express buses to suburbs do a pick up; it's on the way from the library to my own (local) bus stop home. I've seen folks reading ebooks while waiting there. I've sat next to a woman at a counter at lunch, who had her nook propped up against a large glass of water, as a "stand" (there was little chance of the device itself getting soaked).

I believe I even saw someone Kindling-while-walking!

I see the older models once in a while. I have yet to see another 650. But then again, I am a poor ambassador for Sony because I read my iphone on the subway! I will read my Sony on the airplane though.

WOW! I have *never* seen a sony in the wild! I have seen a few kindles in the wild (on a plane). I don't think I've ever seen a nook in the wild, either. But I do get asked sometimes if mine's a nook (I used to just get asked if it was a kindle). I respond, "no, it's better...."

I'm with you, Kiwi. I've never seen anyone using a dedicated e-reader. I've seen some folks using iPads for the Internet, but not reading. I've seen some folks using mobile phones for reading. But still never anyone using a dedicated e-reader.

ereaders are pretty common on the NYC subway. On a rush-hour train, I would guess that about 1 in 20 people has either an ereader or an ipad.
