Interesting that the Google reader has a keyboard..........very interesting. Kind a takes the wind out of the sails of the Nook Touch; what I mean is, some people, including Google, think that keyboards are ok.

Google themselves DO NOT have a reader. They have an SDK for manufacturers to include support for Google Books. The Story HD is the only ebook reader device so far that supports Google Books, and it is made, and marketed, by iRiver. Think of it like Android. Google makes the software, and lets others make the hardware to use the software. |

Those technology companies whose names start with 'A' are pretty good.

And, it's the API that accesses Google Books. And, either way, my post has to do w/ the fact that this is a newly released ereader w/ a keyboard, and what that means relative to touch screens. | |

Yeah, could be; it all depends on what a touch screen means to Amazon, and book sales.........that's the bottom line.

Those who prefer keyboards already bought a Kindle or two or three. That leaves first time buyers (who prefer keyboards) who assume they're getting a Kindle-like experience. Why not just buy the more attractive Kindle? Given that many Kindle-like features are missing, I foresee lots of returns from folks who didn't educate themselves on the device's shortcomings.

KSO is intended to generate a new revenue stream for Amazon -- ads as you use it. They are willing to take an upfront hit of $24 to $50 bargaining that you will generate much more than that in ad revenue over the life of the device. That remains to be seen, of course. Currently, KSO -- like so many things Kindle -- are only available for US residents. So I expect there is no plan to "drop" non-KSO editions any time soon. |
