The mints in post #8 are made in Mexico. They are sold in many flavors, one of those is called "English mint" [menta inglesa], which, after reading wikipedia, I think corresponds to peppermint (mentha pipperita). Spearmint is another flavor of those mints but it is called "hierba buena" (literally "good herb") in Spanish.

I've not seen any of the mints mentioned in this thread. The closest I know is Altoids, which I think are made in USA.

I've been served "biscuits" in Texas, and they were definitely a type of scone. The word "biscuit" comes from French biscuit, which comes from bis cuit= twice cooked. English and French biscuits are not necessarily literally twice cooked, but they are crisp and fairly thin.

In which case, they're probably quite reasonably named. Most mint sweets in the UK are peppermint.
