Update: Working - not working?

Please don't take offense, I'm going to baby-step some of the errors people are making when trying to update.

Load your flash drive on your PC. When you browse the drive, does the update folder icon have a zipper on it? What does it say under type? Lots of people have managed to try to use files named update.zip.[some random file extension] where the .zip is actually just part of the filename and not the file extension, which just won't work

Now you mentioned that you're using a stick with a light, that's good since it let's you know it's doing something.

When I flash my Edges, I hold the buttons down until the second dot appears and when it does, if an update is happening (any update), a small white cursor appears in the upper right hand corner of the tablet with dot #2.

The last thing that I've done and seen others do is accidentally put the dingo file on the drive instead of the ermine.

And you could try to re-download the file in case it got corrupted somehow.

did you rename the file. if the file says "update.zip" after you change it, then its probably already in a zip format. i think this has to do with the way windows explorer display *.zip, *.doc, *.txt extensions. in other words you normally would not see the extension *.zip but just 'update' as the file name with the extension .zip hidden. if you see .zip the actual file is "update.zip.zip" wtih the last .zip hidden. therefore the eDGe would not see it as an update file.
its alittle confusing but I have no other way to explain it to you. actually when i rename my file to update.zip the icon for the file actually changed as well and the .zip portion disappeared (or hidden)

Thanks articmanic, for the addition suggestions. I will try renaming the file again. I did not hold the menu and rotate screen button down long enough as pyxiwulf suggested. I will try again. I've been trying to get the 2.2 update since Thursday.


I tried it. It said it was update to the lastest, but it still shows version 1.6. I'm very confused as to why a simple update will not take.

dude, sorry to see that things are not working out. if you pm me your email, i can email you the update file i used with the proper renaming of the file name. also, you might want to try a usb stick instead formatted to fat. i used a usb to update my pe. i think once you get 2.2 on it you might like the pe better.

I'm sorry you and so many others are having trouble with the update.

Serena, I'm afraid your solution (so elegant!) isn't working for most people.

When the beta first came out (remember, Ermine is technically a beta) many people had to try multiple times to get it to run. Then there were others, like me and Serena, who got it done easily just by asking for an update. (I had opted in to the beta.)

If you are carefully following all the steps, and checking the very good suggestions in this thread, you will eventually get the update. In case you somehow missed it, here are the official instructions: https://www.entourageedge.com/suppor...barticleid=265.

Make sure you have the update for the Pocket eDGe, not the eDGe 2.0 (which is a much larger creature! ).

After 2 long days of battling with the manual update, I was directed to this thread and sure enough my PE is currently updating to Froyo 2.2! Can't wait! After my struggles I want to share what worked for me. It seems I was doing everything right except the renaming part. If you're downloading a zip or winrar file DO NOT RENAME IT TO UPDATE.ZIP! JUST RENAME IT TO "UPDATE". If you attempt to add the .zip portion in Windows you will get a warning saying that the file may become unusable! Thanks to pyxiwulf for the tip!

Attempting to auto update to Ermine (Android 2.2 beta) from the PocketEdge "Update" icon (over the Web) no longer appears to work (I've attempted this several times over the course of several days and for several hours at a time - NO GO). This procedure from arcticmaniac works like a charm. Kudos!

the file has to be named update.zip if you check on windows or unix fs. from mac file browser you do not see file extensions!

Hey I'm having the same problem - I've verified that I have the PE file (not EE) and that it is named update.zip (and not update.zip.zip), put it in the root of a USB drive, but no luck kicking off an update.

I see the cursor in the upper right appear around the time the 2nd dot lights up, so it seems like maybe it is trying.

After I did this a few times, I went into settings and tried "Update now", and it went and downloaded something but I'm still stuck at 1.6.

Just for kicks I even copied update.zip from the usb drive to the root of the internal memory, but still no luck.

Have you tried switching file systems? From FAT to FAT32 or vice versa? Inexplicably some people can't get it to work on one while others can and switching works. It is strange that you see the cursor and no update happens. I've never seen the cursor outside of updating and when I got stuck in a boot loop. Maybe the file is corrupted? Oh! The first time I had to flash since Entourage went down and I had to use a downloaded file from here, the original link from the "So you want Ermine?" thread did not work for me. I downloaded the torrented file that's later in the thread and that worked. I know that's still being seeded and I uploaded the torrent to demonoid too and that had a few seeds last time I checked (my server is offline until this evening). So maybe try a new copy?

Bingo Pyxiwulf --- it was the file naming. one gets used to seeing iso files as, usually winrar icons and zips. following the instructions, it tells you to rename to .zip. I re-downloaded the file and clicked on "save as" and renamed it to just update. device is now saying it is updating from the flash drive. i was getting the flashing cursor, this is where i would say the device was creating the "lost Dir" folder on the drive.

Thanks for your suggestions. My PE began having trouble running apps (email and wifi) last week. I have tried upgrading to ermine multiple times and the PE just ignores the file on the USB. I have followed suggestions from multiple people on the forums with no change in the symptoms. I think that dingo has become corrupted and needs to be reloaded but I do not have the file in hand, The servers are down for Entourage. Does anyone have the dingo upgrade file who can email it to me?
