I've used Calibre occasionally and have found it converts books very well; I really like it but still would like to have a mobi/prc reader in my Sony 950 simply because it saves an extra step. FBReader does a pretty good job with the format so it seems feasible that someone could put it on the Sony readers. However, I'm not a programmer so perhaps it isn't so easy to do.

And whether we can be bothered to explain it instead of laughing at those who don't share it, or not.

Ahhh it's good to see the old "format wars" are alive and well lol... I remember all the "virtual blood" that was spilled over jpeg vs gif... I use both mobi and epub.... mobi because I can't find an epub readerapp I like for my old windoze pda.... I doubt anybody chooses amazon because of the format more like price and titles available.. certainly epub is easier to use and there are a lot more available free authoring tools plus it's similarity to html means us old web developer hacks have a shorter learning curve but it is so easy and quick to convert from one to the other it's a moot issue for a lot of folks

I suppose I´m some sort of Doctor Frankenstein of the thread =P
Particularly, I use epub simply because my device doesnt read mobi by itself (I installed CoolReader so I can read mobi on the LCD screen, although I rather use the EPD all the time for reading purposes). Well, that and because I dislike the amazon emporium very much

Anyway, yeah, you are right, epub got more availability and it´s just a matter of personal choice.
