You'll find lots of people there who can tell you what you can or can't do with the Kindle. But please do bear in mind our policy of not discussing tethering.

Thanks.
Yeah please don't mention the 'Spanish inquisition'.

The TOS seem pretty plain to me. The Wireless connectivity is there for the purpose of updating the Kindle and connecting to the Kindle store. The Google search and Wikipedia links are icing on the cake. I certainly don't believe they intend to be a free Internet provider for their entire customer base.

Quote:
2. Wireless Connectivity

In general, we do not charge you for this use of wireless connectivity. Your Kindle may use wireless connectivity to make other services available to you for which we may charge you a fee, such as personal file download and subscriptions when you are located in another country. The fees and terms for such services are located in the Kindle Store and may change from time to time. If your Kindle functions with third party services, such as WI-FI access points, a third party may charge you fees for the use of those services.

Your Conduct. You may use the wireless connectivity provided by us only in connection with the Service. You may not use the wireless connectivity for any other purpose.

...

3. Device and Software

Use of the Software. You may use the Software only on a Kindle or through a Reading Application on an Other Device. You may not separate any individual component of the Software for use on another device or computer, may not transfer it for use on another device or computer or use it, or any portion of it, over a network, and may not sell, rent, lease, lend, distribute, or sublicense or otherwise assign any rights to the Software in whole or in part. Additional terms apply to some of the third party software or materials on the Kindle, and will govern in the event of a conflict with this Agreement. For more information, see the Legal section in the Kindle Settings menu.

...

Termination. Your rights under this Agreement will automatically terminate if you fail to comply with any term of this Agreement. In case of such termination, you must cease all use of the Software, and Amazon may immediately revoke your access to the Service or to Digital Content without refund of any fees. Amazon's failure to insist upon or enforce your strict compliance with this Agreement will not constitute a waiver of any of its rights.

How sad that I only exist as a mechanism to make Amazon and its shareholders rich.

I am a number not a person how sad, why don't the captains of industry that run the planetary sized companies, that seem to run our planet. Respect the fact that I have bought my Kindle in good faith and now consider it in all senses to be mine? Taking it as being a device in all senses to be a device I legally control. I should be able to do what ever I want with it as long as I infringe no one elses rights ?

Why the threats?

Unless of course slavery is not old fashioned yet?

Amazon provides a free service that allows its members to download books from wherever they are, and in addition, when reading and encountering a new concept or unfamiliar name gives its members the convenience of doing a search right from their Kindle. Bandwidth costs money, but so far Amazon has continued to foot the bill on our behalf. The abusive practice of tethering is the very sort of thing that could ruin it for all of us.

I wrote to Amazon and asked them about tethering, and here's the official word from an Amazon representative:

Quote:
As mentioned in the License Agreement and Terms of Use, You may not use the wireless connectivity for any other purpose.

Please refer to the Kindle Terms of Use for information regarding the proper use of Kindle:
