![]() I'm interested, but really have not participated in any social sites (other than forums and book sites). Will be interesting seeing how this effort by Google develops. I don't know if I've gotten an invite or not but if someone will do the deal, I'll join up and check it out. TIA |

Well, I've had a look around.
![]() Now what's difficult is that it appears to be very easy to delete ALL your google accounts not just google+ if you aren't careful and I certainly don't want to do that. P.S. I did delete/remove myself. I'm just not the target audience I don't think. ![]() I get too much social interaction right here. Last edited by kennyc; 07-22-2011 at 02:18 PM. |

I haven’t used Facebook because I could never figure out why I should want to create a dossier on myself and put it on the Internet. I did go over to Google+ and I read through their brief tour. I thought it might have possibilities for bibliophiles.
I find I do trust Google more than most other big businesses and that includes trusting their technology and their staff with my data. And the site seems to have some promise although I don’t think I fit their targeted audience for meet-ups and socializing with friends. I wondered, however, if it couldn’t be used to find and discuss literature and ideas. Finding the good books has always been the hard part for me (I finish reading less than half the books I buy). A live forum might work better than the static approach of bulletin board approach and the customer reviews. Barnes and Noble caught my attention when they added “social features” to the nooks. Not to criticize the nooks (I love mine) but live discussions like Google+’s “huddles” and “circles” piping book ideas to people with similar interests through "circles" might work better than static features alone. I don’t wish to hijack this thread but is anyone else thinking along those lines? |

I've tried Goodreads, I even have the app for it on my Nookcolor, but it's still a static medium. That's sort of okay--it's good for posting news items and it's all we've had for a long time. I was just wondering whether live discussions in something like "Huddle" wouldn't make it easier to exchange views, especially when you could create circles of people who are interested in the same genre or type of book, author, period, subject, etc. Possibly that goes beyond what a social site is meant to do.
