I bought my mom a Targus stylus and a couple of plastic DS styli to use with her Ipad, but of course I had to try them on my touch as well. The Targus one worked very well (I think it is the same one that taming posted the picture of). The DS ones didn't work very well at all. They were semi OK for the keypad, but not for anything else.

On that note I could see school texts going the way of Ebooks. It would elminate the need for heavy texts, lower the cost of education significantly it is preety much universal across the ereader spectrum etc. I wonder if this is something we may see more of in the future? regards jack |

It depends on the disability, of course. Kobo would be of no use to blind people. Accessible design is pretty much baked into standards for webdesign at this point and with the right software and hardware, accessibility issues are getting much better. A number of years ago, I used to build accessible websites for government funded programs--back then it was a specialty area. Now accessibility is an expectation.

I didn't know they made styli for capacitive touch screens! I'll have to look into that as that would probably be awesome for my cell phone :-)
I have heard of plastidip and I don't think I'll be going that route but I could definitely see that being a very good option for the KT. yeah I was worried about an eraser maybe leaving some kind of residue behind but I hadn't really given it that much thought.. you know all this talk of styli and touch screen durability has me worried for something. I got the impression that the touch screen on the Kobo was just the regular screen, more or less, with an infrared barrier across it. that doesn't necessarily give me too much encouragement for it's durability. at first I was interested in finding a stylus solution to keep the screen clean but now I think I'll definitely figure something out so I can have the screen last as long as possible, it's too bad there wasn't at least two physical buttons for those who don't want to use the touch screen for every single page turn.. |

so I did a quick search for a capacitive screen stylus and found this:
http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Touc...9366107&sr=8-3 $2 and free shipping!! wow I was planning on just using something home-made but this is a very cheap three pack, so if I like these then I could have one for my KT and two more to spare (cell phone, gf's cell phone..). I'm going to read the reviews and I may just have to give this a shot!! |

Not a good idea - it would be high-friction (sticky) on glass. |

For what it's worth the sharp, relatively speaking, plastic stylus end of my Palm didn't work. However the other flat end worked quite nicely. Probably not soft enough to use long term but a somewhat interesting data point for readers of this thread.
I can see how using a stylus might be useful to some with disabilities. |
