Maybe the $9.99 and Paypal is only a Canadian thing
Maybe it is. That would make sense. I was hoping Kobo got things in order. Seems not. Well, not for Americans anyway.

$9.99 is the Canadian price. $14.99 is the agency price from the publisher in the US.

It seems to me (ever the optimist) that when they are making changes (that we actually want) to the website, things get slow and weird for a bit as they do whatever it is they do.

I am noticing that paypal is now an option in the US.

with the following caveat
Quote:
At this time, PayPal is available for purchases made through Kobo.com. The PayPal payment option currently is not available within Kobo eReader applications for smartphones, tablets or desktops
But I assume this includes use via the wireless kobo ereaders. Haven't had a chance to try it yet.

Strange. I'm in Canada and I don't see a Paypal icon anywhere. I went to account settings and only saw the Visa/Mastercard fields.

They also wanted a birth year so I filled that in. Lied of course as I always do.

Here in California, Paypal now works. Awesome!

Now, all they need to do is make the store the same between the KT, the IoS and the desktop. They all offer very different experiences. And, how about actual reader reviews, instead of just stars?

Today the website is showing me the Paypal logo.

However due to my USB port problems I'm having extreme difficulty uploading any books.

The other interesting move is the quiet switch to "kobo.com". You can see that in the Kobo blog announcement of PayPal.

You can also use PayPal to buy egift cards -- http://kobobooks.com/egiftcards. Now, for those folks who complain their credit card charges "international transaction fees" can now pop up to $100 into their account as a gift card to themselves and avoid these fees entirely.

It seems to redirect to kobobooks.com--at least for me. I also noticed that the site display using chrome is much improved. It's nice to see the website/buying experience getting much needed improvements. No insider information here, but I am guessing that the new round of funding has made working on this easier.

I only use Chrome to access kobobooks.com. The new URL -- kobo.com -- is easier to communicate. And, yup, it redirects ... just less to type. I notice they communicate kobobooks.de for the German store.

I am looking forward to further store improvements, particularly around the area of user reviews, a recommendation engine and an advanced search.

I can not tell you how excited I was to see that Kobo is accepting Paypal! When I purchased my ebooks through Borders, I always used my Mastercard debit card. It doesn't work through Kobo, though. I was advised by Kobo that they don't accept Mastercard debit cards which I thought was strange; maybe it's a US thing? The only way I could purchase books was with a Borders gift card. But now that it looks like Borders may be forced into liquidation, I wasn't sure how I'd buy from Kobo. Paypal should solve that problem for me. I am so glad I read about this here! Thank you!
