People seem to like it as it is, so I would leave it alone and work on the next one. (Other than fixing typos).

Yes, I did mean copy editing, not editing the story or flow.

I actually have updated the text a few times already for that kind of thing. Right now my focus is on getting rough draft of Volume III as far as I can before grad school starts up in August....

You're welcome! Darn it, I'm almost sorry to hear book 2 is better. I don't dare start it now--got a show on Sunday that I have to prepare for--but now I know what I'll be doing Sunday night!

I only noticed one error. In the calibre viewer, viewing the epub on page 203.8/475 in the line "sent here to determine if there was any was to protect against"

If only one error stands out, that's speaks very well for the book!
Between "too awful to read" and "perfect" there's pretty large set of books in the "I'll just get used to the typos" category. If only one or two things stand out, that's like a minor black spec on a clean white wall.
Vincent, what did you mean when you said you thought 2 was better edited?

Basically, my editor complains that she missed some stuff because, and she is faithful to remind me, I released it with out giving her "just one more pass through." (for the 9 millionth time mind you).

I also feel the sentence structure in book one is not as good as in book two, and one of my pre-readers pointed out that my "story telling" was much improved. He felt that book two showed of my talents much better then book one. All of my pre-readers of book two stated it was much better then book one.

Besides.... I assume every author looks at a work and could tweak it forever... I know I do!

Well, I knew zip about the book before I started reading it except that it was a sci-fi/fantasy mix. The tone is more formal at the beginning of the book but given that it starts out as pretty straight-up military sci-fi I think it suits the storyline.

Thanks all for the heads-up on the DRM thing.

That's about where I am on the issue. The stuff is invisible since it is data that hides in the file, but what if I want to save my books to CD so I have a backup copy of my own? With DRM I'd think it would be a lot harder to have a usable file in the future if something happened to my Kindle. I'd be right back where I started from probably. Having to redownload books so I could read them. Plus if for some reason Amazon pulls a book (like with 1984) what is a person to do? Having my own backup copy on disk makes it more secure for my own use in that way I think. And with things like Mobipocket not working on Kindle due to DRM even though both are owned by Amazon I find it a great inconvenience.

I think that it's a given that the 2nd book in a series will read better than the 1st does because you're breaking new ground with the 1st one. Everything is new rather than being something you have written about before and of course I don't imagine there has ever been an author whose writing doesn't improve with each new book they write either. Haven't started it yet but I did download the 1st book last night. I'm way behind on my reading.

Well I been wanting to update the book to change it to reflect the release of volume II (since it listed as coming soon in current book) clean up some other title/copyright page stuff, and etc anyways... so I fixed this goof-up while I was there. So if you hope on Smashwords, you can get the fixed copy you helped create!
