The eBook Reader Blog revealed a coupon code that brings the price down to $129.99. It's only good 6/22-24. At this price, I quit deliberating and took the plunge!

Today (6/22) when selecting the Sonystyle link, it brings up the refurb 950 with a promotional discount of $50 off to bring the price to $189.

How would you use the new code to bring it to $129?

thanks.

I already have a 950 but would like a backup...

in sonystyle.com, looking for prs-950sc, select the refurbished version, which is $229.

Put it in cart, which is auto -$50.
and check out, apply coupon code to the textbox below, it will bring the price down to $129 + tax

The Promotion "AFF Outlet 59"is redeemed "800" times and is no longer available.

Perhaps it is no longer valid????

No luck here either. That sure didn't last long. I'd hoped to snag one for hubby.

That $189.99 price isn't so bad either....I'm tempted. But I think I'll wait & see what Sony has coming out later this year...hopefully they will.

Sony should be thinking like they do with their consoles and expect a certain attach rate with each sell of one of its E-readers.

I do agree 3g is the best but does not really seem necessary. When there is Wifi signals on just about every corner.
Not sure how you would configure the router without it being connected to a computer.

Plugging in a router straight from the box will get you nowhere as far as I am aware. Unless things are hugely different in the US you need to enter your username and password to be able to connect to your ISP.

And you would also need to be able to log into the router to set up the security, unless of course you intend to run your connection wide open.

Easily. I can do that from any device with wi-fi and a web browser. The default log-in credentials for the web admin page for the router should be included in the user manual or quick start guide. SSID is usually the manufacturer's name and wi-fi is generally not encrypted by default.

On a cable modem, we don't need a username/password in order to connect. We call the cable company and give them the MAC address of the cable modem which they then activate with their service.

Again, doable with any device with wi-fi and a web browser.

I stand corrected.

I have no experience of cable, we do not have it here in rural England, and I was not aware that you do not have a username/password.

Also (we do not get the 950 here in the UK) does it have a web browser included?

I snagged one of the $129 950s and I'm thrilled.

It's amazing how each device creates a hunger for the next one. I started reading on my Touch, no great shakes as a reading experience, but so handy when out and about. I was delighted with my Nook when I got it, but eventually started to lust for a device that would combine the portability of the Touch with the readability of the Nook. When the 350 hit $129, I went for it. My plan was that it would live in my purse and I'd continue to read on the Nook at home.

Loved the 350, but having it made me think that the ideal state would be to have a 5" reader for on the go and a 7" reader for at home. The 6" started to seem like a compromise (nothing wrong with that)--it was portable enough to carry and large enough for home, but not ideally suited for either job. It was moot, because at over $300 for the Kindle and the Sony 7" devices, there was no way one of those was in my future--especially with a perfectly serviceable Nook. Even the $189 price on the refurbed 950 didn't sway me. But $129? Mine now.

It's amusing I suppose that I've bought a 350 and a 950 (plus the cover with light for the 350 which was free with purchase) for $1 less than my Nook cost me not that long ago. This had better be it, however! How many ereaders can a girl justify?

Congratulations, Issybird! I didn't expect to be be able to find a 950, given how they've been cleared out of Best Buy, let alone at this price.

I too started reading on a Touch, then an Android smartphone, then a 5" PocketBook 360, which I still love for its portability and integrated cover. My dream e-ink device will have an even bigger screen than 7" (but one that won't break too easily!) and annotation capabilities suitable for academia. That feature set is at least several months out, so I'm delighted to have a chance to try the 950 as an intermediate step.

Congrats to those who scored one... you'll love it, I'm sure! Hubby is just going to sit back and see what Sony brings out in fall I guess. And he still enjoys his Nook, so I expect he'll live.
