It would be more like updating an iPod to a pre-release version of 5.0 that Apple had pretty much got working, but they went out of business before getting it ready to release to more of the public than just testers. That is, ermine is an official beta release from Entourage. No hacking involved, and no hacker mistakes. It just ... wasn't ready for prime time yet. And even if it had been, there are things about ermine that users don't like and want to change, and so we're hacking it. Such as, straight ermine can't access the normal Android market. There are other Android devices where this is true, but it doesn't mean we have to like the situation or accept it! ![]() -- Ed |

Welcome, and enjoy!!
![]() I just bought a gelaskin for my new EE. It will arrive Friday. On the old forum there's a helpful post about skins: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...ight=gelaskins. Check Grumpy's review of Gelaskins vs. Decal Girl on page 2. I would suggest getting screen protectors as well. I just put XOskins protectors on my EE and I find them a bit too glary and sticky, but plenty strong. I have cheaper protectors on my PE (forget the brand offhand) which don't glare as much, but they are getting scratched by using my stylus to scroll. Fortunately I bought a 5-pack and can replace them. ![]() P.S. I upgraded both my eDGes to Ermine with excellent results. As Mr. Ed points out, it is an authorized, "clean" beta. I crossed my fingers and went ahead with it. Good luck to you!! ![]() Last edited by Filark; 06-20-2011 at 10:12 PM. |

Hello,
with EE when I long press Rotate button doesn't appear option for hibernation. Only eDGe option: 1 - Silent mode 2 - Power Off. Is it possible to make some configuration for getting an option 3 - Hibernate? Thanks Erminio |

Unfortunately no. However, you can manually hibernate the EE by using the Screen Lock App. I copied the icon to my Home Screen which is usually how I put the EE into hibernate.

Thanks obsessed2,
I already use Screen Lock App, I put it on my home screen too. It works very well, but if I close lid, then if I resume EE in about 1-2', it resumes, on the contrary, if I let close more time, "Lazzaro" doesn't wake up. :ò) What boring bug [?] |

So, to be clear, this is an issue where ONLY the EE does not come out of hibernation when the HOME button is pressed and the unit is left open? Or is this also happening when the unit is hibernated by closing it? If the magnetic sensors can be removed from the symptom, it makes diagnosis easier since it has to be software/firmware related.
... To that end, is there a utility, or could there be, that extracts ALL "settings" into a file? The settings must be SAVED, so they must be SAVED SOMEWHERE, like in a file or files. Using the "rock and pointed stick" technique, someone could save the dates on all system files, make a change, then find the file(s) that just changed. Of course, that assumes the file date changes. Do we think this is an Android-related setting, or an eDGe-related setting? Do Android devices have a "come out of hibernation" mode? Bottom line is we should probably collectively KNOW where these files are anyway. Why only on the EE? Do the two units have different cores, I mean apart from the size of the screen? If this problem is really limited to the EE, what can we learn from that? |

On my EE, if I do screen lock, it works well and also after hours, if I press menu button it resumes and all goes OK!
Instead if I close lid for a time > 2 minutes, it doesn't wake up in all cases, either with screen open & working, else with screen lock activated. I tried to launch dmesg linux command on terminal emulator, but I can't save report on a file, i.e. with normal command, also rooted: # dmesg > "nomefile".txt So, for now I am not able to know if problem is linked to hardware. Sorry for my bad English writing, but I hope that i was able to explain situation. Thanks |

For completing scenario, I really think that lock screen is very quite different from hibernating, above all on HW support, but in all cases I'm not a guru...

Maybe it can be useful copy & paste these last consideration in a new "HIBERNATION EE" thread and waiting for new ideas, no?

Last_of_the_PEs: Good point. The question now becomes does the EE not come out of hibernation when using Screen Lock with the EE left open or does it not come out of hibernation when closing the lid, or both? To that end, I do not experience a hibernation issue with my EE either way. It always comes out of hibernation and has done so for the two months I have owned it, and I have hibernated it both ways many times. With that said, I'm not sure it is not an Android specific problem because like you said the PE would exhibit the same problem. But what makes one EE different from another? Aside from hardware, the OS should (and I emphasize should) be the same. Aside from not being able to install Apps on the SD card I would say for many EE owners this is one of their top 2 issues.

I'm not sure they are different. When you use the Lock Screen the E-Reader still displays the To Wake Out of Hibernate Press Menu message and all the physical display indicators are the same (trackball lit up etc.).
