That is what scares us (also the new Samsung tablet effort). The Apple disease is spreading to other systems. Manufacturers seem to think they can get away with offering less functionality for the same or more money. And the general dumbing down of computing devices.

Last month I think developers were given the ability to filter by devices so they could specify the phones their app would work with and not be shown in the market for phones that their app won't work on. For my part, while I think you can be an interesting read part of the time, the rest of the time you troll. So as to resist the temptation to feed the trolls, I'm adding you to my ignore list. The android subforum shouldn't be your personal tinderbox, and I wish there were a better way to return it to a reasonable discussion of the platform, but this is the only tool I have at my disposal.

Well, that could be true for developers but still I think users can't filter by rating or Android version.

Users can sort by rating ("popularity") in the web version of the market, though not, I think, in the app version.

I expect they'll add a version filter pretty soon as more 3.x-specific apps appear. At the moment though, it's an issue affecting only a small minority of users. Most apps run fine on 2.1 and above. Google's dashboard is currently showing that only 4.4% of devices accessing the market are running on less than 2.1, and only 0.6% are on 3.0 or later.

I was not referring to Web version. And I disagree. Majority of users actually run Froyo and via tablet or cellphone and we just can't filter properly. A good search engine is vital with any data retrieval process.

But if you're on Froyo (i.e. v2.2), the number of apps that won't run on your device is vanishingly small, so why is not being able to filter by version currently a problem?
