Before becoming an adept of Pilot the Bob I always ordered the same sort of pizzas.
When I felt virtuous I had a pizza with onions and tuna fish (plus the usual tomatoes and cheese) When I felt ... not virtuous, a pizza 4 cheeses with an extra of pepperoni but only the very spicy kind (with the usual tomatoes under the topping). Now I do not have pizza other than very seldom and it is with those little tomatoes raw and buffalo mozzarella (basil leafs here and there) a tour of good olive oil. At home, I sometimes make sfinciuni for my girls that after the treat keep kissing me fondly. Ah, I was forgetting two things: With pizza, beer. Leffe in my case. Cinema, pizza and ... that's the classical here in Milano. So if you ask a girl: what do you think of a movie and a pizza, don't be surprised if she hits you on the head with the umbrella and kicks you in the shins. This in Milano, maybe somewhere else is different. But to get one has to risk. I would say: care for a movie? and then, after, i would inquire if she feels like eating something, maybe a cake with some coffee, or a drink, a pizza maybe? Great thread! I hate you Stitchy, for starting it, though. I haven't had a pizza in over a year and now I'm STARVING FOR ONE!!!!!
I like 'em fresh, hot, thin, and crispy off our pizza stone at home. No tomato sauce, please. Just shitake and oyster mushrooms, a little prosciutto, some rosemary, a little olive oil, and some cheeses like fontina, mozarella, and parmigiano-reggiano. It may be very different from a tomato-based pizza (which I also like) but this one's fabulous. Gotta try it! |

I don't know if this really qualifies as a topping. But the best pizza I have ever had is the “stuffed pizza” at Zachary's in Berkeley (or Oakland) California, with the extra “topping” (aside from cheese and tomato paste) being a combination of pineapple and Canadian bacon. Ooh, now I am so hungry for some, but over 2000 miles away.

Shakey's Pizza is here in Kyoto too... Vile stuff. They have an 'all-you-can-eat' lunch special for about $7 USD, but their pizza is so bad I can't even get my money's worth! I still wish I could get a good NYC pizza... Stitchawl |

Originally from Chicagoland, I'm a thin crust girl all the way. I know, travesty! I was able to have two helpings of my very favorite when I visited family a few weeks ago- thin crust, pepperoni!
I also like fresh mushrooms and small diced onions if i'm feeling virtuous, and white pie is always a good bet. MMMM. |

lestatar, if you're anywhere near Kennedy Town try Pizza Q in Davis Street right opposite the Merton Blocks 1 and 2 - pretty good stuff. Cicada on the esclator in Central is ok too and happy hour cocktails certainly help!
For me it's good old pepperoni, thin and crispy base |

Got to be cooked properly in a real pizza oven and NOT full of extra cheese, sauce and ultra fatty. The local Italian bakery sells real pizza (not Pizza Hut!!) The traditional toppings with olives, tomatoes, sometimes anchovies.
I did have a really good one last night with a variety of vegetables, including baby spinach, and that was very good. Those greasy cheesy crusts are just ghastly and will stack on the kilos! |

Tuna fish and Salami/Peperoni.
It looks weird, but tastes great. |

30 years ago I lived in a small city that had a local bakery that made pizza to be sold in convenience stores, mom&pop grocery stores, etc., and eaten cold. It was Sicilian style and even cold, surprisingly good! Plain tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese, rectangular greasy thick crust, and delicious! It was always stacked up beside the cash registers in these stores, and sold out every day!

All of you are insane.
Here is the perfect pizza. Thin crisp garlic crust, red sauce, mozerella, Italian sausage, pepperoni, green peppers, onions, black olives, and anchovies. All else is just faux-pizza. |

Since I was posting the previous reply from the iPad I kept it short, but now that I'm on the desktop....my favorite pizza topping is mushrooms. On "white" pizza, on traditional style, on everything except dessert "pizza" (which in my dictionary doesn't really qualify as pizza anyway). If I'm going all out it's mushrooms, onions, hamburger, extra cheese. Always wanted to try anchovies but have never either been brave enough, or had anyone encourage me enough LOL. |
