This article was a little strange. These aren't the only ereaders under $175. I know at least that Pocketbook has the 5" eink and 7" LCD under that price in the US, and I'm sure that with a little digging others can be found as well.

But the thing that I found to be the most bizarre is the fact that the author dismisses the nook color because it costs more than the set maximum, and then declares the winner to be the ipad, that costs twice as much. Is this guy being payed by Apple or what?
