Kobo Touch with a lot of books

I have around 7,500 books (some very short and a few very long) on my Kobo Touch. Reading speed has been unaffected but the use of the "home button has been getting very slow and the home/library touch button is so slow it never works with a single touch - it needs two. Also pressing the Home button to bookmark a page and return Home nearly always needs two presses.

Eventually the machine crashed so extensively that Windows 7 wouldn't recognise it, and the ereader called to be re-setup, but the touch screen would not work even to re-setup and there was no trouble-shooting advaice to deal with this.

Eventually I found I could use the onscreen "Home" touch if I tapped VERY hard, and then use the "factory reset" (which took sevaral minutes). Of course I lost all 7,500 books, but Kobo desktop resynchronised around 100 DRM protected books via the USB cable.

I now face restoring 7,400 books via my Calibre archive! I have restored 4 to test that it works - and it works very fast now.

So I don't end up with an unusable ereader again I need to try to keep most of them on a micro SDHC card, but I need to find out if I can transfer a just a few at a time.
