I figure the kids will be more likely to lose a sleeve than a cover that's connected. I've discussed the pros and cons of each and everyone I've talked to thinks pretty much the same. As far as those other methods, it's not just one, and it's not for me. (Besides, both of your methods sound more sleeve-like than connected-cover-like.) I do have some money to spend on this, just not tons.

Seriously -- take your Nook STR to your local Sony outlet and slide it into the zippered cover meant for the Sony PRS-650.

I think you'll find that it is an excellent fit -- the best I have found.

Non-zippered sleeves for only $9

Check out Nuvo-Tek. They have neoprene sleeve for the Nook 2 Touch for $8.95 with free shipping and 3 color combinations to choose from. Here's the link:

You want cheap. I'll give you cheap.

I didn't want anything bulky, and was looking for something exactly like the nuvo-tek rc748 suggests, but couldn't find anything without a zipper after visiting Best Buy, Office Depot, and Staples. However, at Staples, we found a nylon "Stretchable Book Cover" intended for hardbound DTB's.

I just stuck the STR in one side and stuffed the other side in over the screen side of the STF for extra protection. $1.99.

Took it home and cut the backs out of two DVD boxes, inserted those into the two sides of the book cover. I slide the STR behind the one and stuff the other in front of it so it gives double protection to the screen.

I'll probably get one of those Nuvo-Tek ones, but for a quick cover the Stretchable Book Cover works pretty good. LOL.

I made the mistake of buying an "inexpensive" cover for my orignal nook only to discover it really wasnt protected, even in my briefcase. So i ended up spending more to get an M-edge, which by your standards will not be inexpensive.

When i got my STR i bought the aforementioned Industriell Easel case. I've loved every minute i've had it. Its perfect for setting up to read in my kitchen. But most of the time, when I am reading, the STR comes out of the case because its got such a nice tactile feel to it.

Not as helpful a suggestion, i know, but i learned my lesson the first time.

I just ordered one of the nuvo-tek sleeves rc748 suggested. It was just what I needed, keeps the dust off and no scratchy zippers. I am not a fan of adding bulk to a device that someone worked hard to keep slim and this lets me move it in and out of the sleeve without worrying about scratches. I do wish someone would make a hard case that covered all sides though.

Yeah, I wouldn't want to lead anyone to think my "cheapest way yet" is an actual permanent solution. Definitely gotta take into consideration the environment, and knocking around in a busy briefcase could be hazardous to a reader's health.

My wife made a quilted cover, so now my "solution" is a friction-reducing insert in the cover.

What's your feeling on that, especially if in the hands of 8-10 year olds? Is this a problem that might go away with use (i.e., loosening up just a little)?
It has a magnetic clasp. It doesn't snap shut, you get the two parts of the clasp near each other and they click together. The result is secure, and stays shut, but is still easy to open. It also avoids users hammering the clasp into place so hard they damage the screen behind it, which used to be an issue with Palm Pilot cases back in the day.

I think the Bundlemonster's case is surprisingly good. Cover + decal skin (not sure about the quality of the decal) less than $15 (and up) on eBay.
Of course it depends on how much protection you want. For me it's enough though.

A good cheap cover

Hi,
I came across skindigital store while looking for Nook touch covers. The Nook touch one was $16.95. Shipping was free, along with a screen guard. And its pure leather! the link is

Going to order one for myself soon...

I ordered the M-edge executive jacket and the light that stores in the spine of the case...I really wanted a lighted case (like my wife's Kindle case).

http://www.medgestore.com/products/nook3-executive.psp

Although I prefer a zippered or magnetic clasp-shut design over this style.

They didn't redesign the e-Luminator light for the new case, rather, it wraps around the bottom...I wasn't keen on the extra half inch of case, but I really wanted a built in light.

And I had a coupon my wife emailed me for 50% off to sweeten the deal (one of those "we want you back as a customer" codes).

This one looks identical to these two

http://www.amazon.com/Barnes-Noble-G.../ref=pd_cp_e_2 and
http://www.amazon.com/CaseCrown-Rega...pr_product_top

(each of these comes in several colors; the CaseCrown one is synthetic leather, the other one is real leather)

of which I just got one each today (and they are practically indistinguishable). The only difference is the one you posted about has the screen guard, and it costs a couple bucks less because there's no shipping. So, (1) are you liking it so far? and (2) how is the screen guard? I need to get 13 more; they will be used with 3rd graders.

Has anyone else tried any of these three? I'm tempted to get the one from skindigital even though I haven't tried it yet, just because it has the screen guard too, unless folks have not found those good to use or helpful.

(I'm amazed B&N hasn't come up with covers of this kind at this price-point yet whereas Amazon's got two and there's obviously this third one out there... but I'm also thinking these three are really all the same product... except for the difference between real and synthetic leather)

Thanks!
Carolyn

(teach me to read more carefully) -- turns out the difference is only a dollar, so unless the screen guard is really worth it, I'll probably go with what I already have seen. But for anyone else out there, now you have 3 to choose from (and if you've only seen the ones on Amazon, you may well want to get the one from skindigital instead as it does cost less and come with the screen guard).

I wish I had read this thread before I bought M-Edges' K3 case (nook is rare in my country). It's a tall case, and the straps does not fit Nook, so I wrapped my nook in a microfiber cloth. It made the Nook fit in snugly, plus the microfiber is useful to wipe things clean lol...

Still, the prices here are damn cheaper ;_;
