you might want someone with that slightly different device and firmware to do the test for you. I have suspected that the Adobe Reader Mobile (Version 9.1.1 that the JBL is using with the 0.16e firmware) works as "DaleDe" has described it, with a serif font included in the reader software, for any unspecified or not embedded font, in .epub files. I haven't looked into it though. Luck; Ken PS; While crossflashing the regular jetBook and the Libre devices can be done, you should read through the tale of woe that has accompanied the efforts. Sears near me has Libre Pros for $69.99 right now. But I want the jetBook firmware for B&N DRM. Off to do some research.

Ok, so anyone that is interested. ePubs on a Jetbook Lite display with a serif font by default. I will assume text files and HTML documents will show up in Sans Serif.

I'm pretty sure .mobi files display in a Sans Serif font as well.

True, .mobi files appear to display using the system (sans serif) font on the JBL.
I have both a .mobi and a .epub file of "The New Road to Serfdom" on my JBL and the .mobi is san serif and the same text is with a serif font in the .epub. Luck; Ken |

The short answer is basically - No.
I don't have a Libre Pro or a Regular Jetbook, I have a JetBook Lite and all three are part of the Dr Yi M800 series of ereaders as far as the hardware and base firmware is concerned. There are two fonts with six sizes as the system fonts, as far as I know they are all san serif fonts. Changing those would require a rebuilding of the base OS firmware. In addition to the base/kernel firmware, the firmware package includes a number of embedded utilities and application software. Chief among these are the "reading programs". Aluratek and Ectaco selected and integrated the application software to create their unique products from the hardware and firmware supplied by maker (Dr YI). I believe that the initial releases of these products included reader software that used the system fonts only. Later firmware updates added and/or changed the reader programs to use fonts embedded in the ebook file and then also a font embedded in the reader. I do not know which version of firmware you are running with your Libre Pro, nor what reader application (and reader version) would provide what abilities in this regard. One approach that should work is to use the .pdf format which will inherently use embedded fonts, so the readers for .pdf will be able to display them. Luck; Ken |

If you take an Aluratek Libre Pro and swap out the software for the jetBook software you will be back where you started with no serif fonts for text.
The Libre Pro can basically handle most of the same formats other than the B&N DRM unfortunately. The Libre Pro offers a serif and sanserif font where as the JB/JBL offers two sans-serif fonts. One proportional and the other non-proportional. Swapping the firmware between the two would migrate the fonts as well IMO. John |
