I read Little Women when about 8 and Good Wives a year or two later. I put LW, as being her iconic book. I first learned of the existence of the American Civil War from reading LW.

As a child I wasn't all that appreciative of LW. I liked Jo -- I suppose one is meant to -- but disliked Beth and Amy. And of course as a child I didn't think much of Jo's marriage. For me as an adult it rings fairly true.

Not a problem here. These may be "girls books", but I would argue that they go beyond that simple stereotype. They're classic books for youth of any age, IMNSHO.

Yes, agree. Just as Tom Sawyer is not simply a 'boy's book'.

Loved Eight Cousins the best I think, though I also wore out my copy of Jack and Jill. I guess my other two favorites are Rose in Bloom and Little Women.

I read Little Men in the 1960's. I've read the rest, but LM remains my favorite.

I disliked Beth, but thought that Amy's character became quite likeable later on. Started off liking Jo, but started to dislike her - given how difficult she'd found the restrictions of being female in a male-orientated world, I was quite cross that she thought 'her boys' were so wonderful and she was so dismissive of all the younger female characters. Seemed she'd gone over to the dark side!

Have only read Little Women, so that had to get my vote. The Others are on my TBR list

I checked "other," because I haven't read any. Will probably get to Little Women eventually. I free copy came with my Nook. After that, we'll see...

I've managed to avoid all the books and all the movies. I'm not disparaging them, they just never seemed to be something I would be interested in.
