i received my cybook in june, 2008, and have never had a problem with it. glad to hear after your bad experience that you found a device that works well for you. and consider yourself lucky you can read on a lit screen -my eyes swell badly.

The problem with displays developing lines across the screen is a common one, and usually it can be fixed cheaply by a competent electronics repair shop. The usual cause is debonding of the ribbon cable from the display, and it is fixed by simply running a teflon iron designed for that purpose over the contacts.
