I'd like to know more about the OP's size requirements. Weren't the only other covers with built-in lights the ones made by Sony, and isn't the only reader for which you can still find such a cover the PRS-350?
Apparent Requirements Met by the PRS-350: ePub?: Yes. Cover with light?: Yes (if you're willing to go on an Easter egg hunt or are fond of pink). Size?: Who knows? That said, how can we recommend an exact replacement for a type of reader that hasn't been in production for years? Tell us where you're willing to compromise, OP. Just to say I've fallen asleep for at least 20hrs with my Sony cover light on, plus the time I've actually used it for reading awake, and I still haven't had to replace the battery.
Am also switching to a rechargeable AAA to save the planet. |

Sounds like a used prs700 is the way to go. Take good care of it because I don't see illuminated e-ink screens making a reappearance any time soon. |

I have a Kindle-3 with the lighted case, and for the price it definately wasn't worth it. It doesn't shine evenly on the screen so that the bottom half gets very little light compared to the top (a clothespin helps a little), and the light isn't strong enough to begin with.
![]() ![]() A stronger clip on light with a $20 case would be cheaper and better in my opinion. |

My Sony PRS-350 with the lighted reader is wonderful. I just bought a cover as a gift at a local Sony store, and they had both the blue and pink in stock, so it seems that they can still be found. They had the 650 covers as well, if I recall correctly.
Another option might be to see if you can find a PRS-505 with a light edge on ebay if you don't need or want a touchscreen. I would love to pick the light edge up if I come across it. |

Sorry, but that looks a really rubbish light ! Makes the Sony look like a Rolls ! (And it works well also !) |

Yeah, it's really not much of a light at all, and the markup on this cheap cardboard case/light must be incredible. It's nice to have in a pinch, but I never use it if there's a real light around somewhere.

I've got the kindle lighted cover and the official Sony lighted cover for my PRS-300. I have to say that I find the kindle covet to be better. The quality of the K3 case is superior to the sony case and overall I find the light to be better. The light may be uneven but the light at the bottom of the screen is still more than adequate. I find that the Sony light is too bright and rather harsh for night time reading.

I tried reading by the K3 light alone for a couple of weeks when I first got it. I mostly read myself to sleep at night. It seemed to me that I was taking forever to get through Eddisons' The Worm Ouroboros, so I turned the lamp on beside my bed and the difference was incredible. I literally get through twice as many pages in a typical night now, which tells me just how much I was straining to read by the Kindle's little light. It's good in a pinch, but I sure wouldn't want to read by that light all the time.
The cover is tough enough to protect the unit. No one would argue that. But it's just inexpensive artificial leather on cardboard w/ a tiny 3-bulb LED light. I don't see anything to justify the price of this thing. There can't be more than $5 worth of materials here, and they sell it for $65. It also adds to the weight considerably. If you're lying on your back reading while holding the Kindle out in front of you like I do, you'll find yourself switching hands constantly. But the good thing about the case is that it makes the Kindle thick enough to hold. Without a case it feels like a flimsy piece of shale tile. If I had it to do over I would like to try out the Color Nook with the back-light. Unfortunately, I held one in my hand once (it wasn't turned on) and noticed that it was probably as heavy as the Kindle w/ lighted case. Anyway, it's much heavier than the B&W Nook. But at least the light would be even. The Nook feels just about the same thickness as a small paperback and is much better to hold. But then you have the problem of a lousy touch-screen. Personally, I don't think there's a single e-reader out there that's made very well. None of them are designed with ergonomics in mind. You're constantly bumping into buttons and there's absolutely no place to put your thumb if you're on your back in bed (effectively holding it upside down) and need your thumb in the middle to balance the unit. I'm still waiting for somebody to do this right. |

I own both a PRS950 and a PRS350 with lighted covers. Well, a 900 too, but I don't use it that much. They are wonderful products.
But the 950 covers with lights are hard to find nowadays. The covers for 350s, on the other side, are widely available. The only downside is that the battery life of those is much shorter than that of the reader... |

All that being said, the reader I use more than any other, even over my beautiful 650 is my 700, because I read mostly at night. The other readers I read in portrait mode, but I only read the 700 in landscape mode because of the way the light hits the screen. If my 700 were to break, I'd do whatever I could to get another one because for my reading needs, reading lights are cumbersome and less enjoyable than reading on my 700. I really wish Sony would make a PRS-750. That would be ideal. |

If you can't find a replacement PRS-700 and decide you might be willing to use a cover with light, don't forget the M-edge covers with the light that slips in behind the reader. I have one for my PRS-900. I never take it off and have never had to change the battery in over a year(?). Of course, I usually read with an overhead light on.
![]() Good luck! There are no bad choices, but I hope you can find a barely used PRS-700! ![]() P.S. For what it's worth, I read mostly on my Pocket eDGe these days, and when I am trying not to wake my husband I use a flashlight app on the (Android) LCD side to illuminate the e-ink side.
