Ok I will give you some wise words.
Im sure your current reader works fine. I dont think you will get anything more out of the new one that your current reader doesnt give you now. You dont buy new printings of books because they have new cover art do you?? Same thing here. Yeah there are a few new toys to play with on a new reader but nothing that will improve your joy of reading. If anything, if you buy this reader, you will geek over it for a couple days at most, get bored of it and regret spending all that cash.

How did I do.

ps. If this little lecture doesnt help you, go outside with your ereader and throw it as hard as you can against a tree or other suitable object. Voila one broken ereader and an excuse to get another.

I have bought new printings of books for the cover art
Is there anyone special in your life that you could gift your current reader to? That's how I justified getting a new one to myself

I tried it one hour ago in Indigo (Montreal downtown) and I will share my personal view:

Design: Very nice piece. I read some comment about the switch on/off and the central button. For me everything seems good. Also the device is light and feels good in the hand.

Reading: There was 2 fonts, I prefer the serif one. The touching was not really responsive and I was quite surprised because I have a PRS-700 and it was as responsive as the demo unit (I've handled 3 demo units).
The dictionary function was not easy to activate as you need to highlight a word and not simply touch it.

Library: It does the job. You have a view with one book per page, it would be great to have a summary of the book when in this view, perhaps in the future...
To be noted, I think it really clever to have the different books you are currently reading on the homepage.

Store, Reading Life : That was really the annoying part. You couldn't access the wifi because it needed a key on the demo with a library and you couldn't touch anything with the 2 others because they hadn't been sync yet. So much for a trial then.

In resume, I spent some time in both boards (Kobo & Nook) and was eager to try the Kobo Touch as soon as I heard the announcement. After what I saw today, I know for sure I won't buy it before they arrange a lot of things in their OS.

As I live in Canada, I have not tried the Nook yet but for what I saw on reviews, it seems a more reliable product so far but to be honest, I still love my 700 so maybe I'm not quite ready for a trade off

I would not be surprised if the demo versions were running pre-release versions of the software. The ones at my Chapters are running only what they shipped with, rather than the June 9 version I got when I set mine up. In any case, playing with a demo machine in a store and then comparing it unfavourably to a reader you have never tried at all, seems less than ideal.

Indeed taming, the version was of the 20th of May...

Also, as I said, it was only via video reviews that I could draw some conclusions.
When I watched the Kobo presentation, I saw people had to tap twice because the first tap was not registered and I feared just that....

Yeah--I know they were working things like that all along--and the videos are relatively old. I had to double tap only when I was adjusting the minutes in time zone etc settings, never for things like page turns. It does require a different kind of touch though than a capacitive screen and it may very well be that i had not twigged to that yet when I was setting up the clock.

Someone I follow on Twitter, who does have a new Nook Touch, tweeted that the Nook freezes from time to time. I haven't heard the same thing said of the Kobo, but it's still early days. I'm still loading up books on mine, but I'm loving it so far!

I have had some sorta freezes. In the past, with earlier iterations of the Kobo, we used to use the word freeze to indicate that we had to do a reset of some sort. With the issues I have had, clicking on the home button has worked to recover from what was happening.

well, maybe i can help you. when trying to justify my purchase of the KT i just thought about how it would be nice to have two ereaders so that i could take my "old" ereader into risky situations. for example, the beach, traveling, and anywhere it could get destroyed/broken. it makes sense. also, the KT doesn't come with the 100 preloaded classics so, you can still use the regular Kobo for reading those books. there are plenty of reasons to have two ereaders or more!
