Thanks, chaley. That's a relief. I had received the impression that the ISBN box had been eliminated entirely which would be a deal killer for me. Annoying I can deal with.

@randwyck: I changed the behavior of 'paste ISBN' button. It now opens a small dialog box to enter an ISBN if the clipboard is empty or if it contains something that isn't an ISBN. You then type the ISBN, click OK (or press enter), and whatever you typed is pasted into the identifiers box prefixed by isbn:. This change should eliminate you being forced to type the prefix by hand in a large majority of cases.

To preserve existing behavior, if the clipboard contains a valid ISBN then the prefix and that ISBN are pasted without any further interaction.

Change will be in the next release.

Thank you chaley, that helps a lot. I frequently have to fill as many as 50 ISBN fields (then download metadata in bulk), so it really was annoying to type or even paste the isbn: prefix.

Add from ISBN Menu Item does not need the word ISBN: to work
I just completed documenting another box of DT books with my trusty bar code scanner and Add from ISBN.
I can assure you that I did NOT (re)configure the Scanner to pre-pend ISBN: to its output

I'm not sure I quite understand what you mean. Starting from 0.8 Calibre doesn't recognise ISBN without the prefix. Thankfully after the latest update I don't have to type it manually.

There is a special Add Books Menu item (on the little arrow of AB) that allows books to be added by JUST using a ISBN.

It requires even more steps to perform, I'm afraid.
Usually I just add some books in bulk and then edit their ISBNs.
