I made the woot purchase and have been researching a lot about the pocket edge. I am glad to be joining the community and look forward to trying out the device.

I just recently got a kindle 3g from amazon.com and have already submitted my return request. I loved the kindle, but after seeing this on woot I felt like the kindle was missing some things...things that can only be capable with touch screen. If entourage folds, my next e-reader won't be for at least a good year or 2 and by then, there will be something better.

Battery life was the big selling point for me on the kindle, but with what the PE looks capable of, 6-11 hours of realistic battery life should suffice.

The price on woot was hard to justify the 190 I paid for a kindle.

I'm another new user (impatiently waiting for my edge to ship....lol) who bought the pocket edge off of woot.com. It's reassuring to see so many helpful comments here, and the unofficial support I saw people giving in this forum was one of the factors that contributed to my buying an edge. I look forward to learning how to use the edge and becoming familiar with y'all.

I'm a recent Wooter (Wootie?) and once my PE arrives, I'll need guidance on the Ermine / 2.2 upgrade. Is the source for the upgrade files in the Forum or elsewhere? I can't seem to find them, not that it matters to me yet - just getting prepared ;-)

Once you register and sign into the site you should get a message asking if you want to participate in the beta version of Ermine. The upgrade comes with Froyo email but you will still have the other email apps. Good luck.

Different from forum registration I guess. And do you mean register on the PE itself or on the Entourage website? Sorry for all the noob Q's!

Yes, different from Forum registration (you can register in the forums without owning an eDGe). You register your eDGe on your eDGe by pressing "Menu" - Settings - Edge Settings - Register. Once registered, you run the "Store" app and click the "My Account" link, where you'll see the Ermine update message text in red (you can also log into the www.entourageedge.com website and click My Account). Once you've "opted-in" on the beta, you run the "Update" app on your eDGe to download and install the Ermine beta.

I'm one of those 2473 who couldn't resist the woot deal. My new PE should arrive on Wednesday. woo-hoo! I have a Kindle DXG which I love, but the PE was just too good to pass up at $150.

Right now I use my DXG for reading and as a handy reference on dental materials (there are so many, remembering the correct usage is a little too much for my brain). I often have to look up drugs and interactions which I do using Epocrates on my Nexus One, but a single device that will save all the materials info and allow web access will be very nice to have.

Wow - are you a dentist or just a hobbyist? I've been interested in dental surgery ever since I found a book on the topic from the 1960s that someone had inexplicably discarded. It has lots of pictures. I have a variable-speed drill and titanium drill bits (bought on sale at Home Depot), but haven't been able to get anyone to sit still long enough for me to practice, even though I promise to wash my hands very carefully first. I was wondering whether you have the same problem in Arizona, or is it just New York snobbery, that people here want to see a "real" dentist.

Me too, me too! I picked up a shiny red one from woot and the tracking bot told me that it shipped today. Although FedEx says they sent it out on the 7th. Either way, woot seems to choose the slowest shipping possible, and it's not scheduled to arrive until the 13th. I'm currently using an Archos 9 and OneNote as my portable notepad, and I'm interested in seeing how the eDGe will compare. I'm looking forward to the Wacom digitizer and testing out that OneNote import tool I saw somewhere on the internets.

Nice to have an excuse to join a forum again! I should be receiving my new black PE tomorrow as a birthday gift. (Thank you Dad, and thank you WOOT.) I look forward to exploring all of its possibilities, especially in regards to its use as a laptop replacement at work (I teach science at a small high school) and for all the public domain books on Ambleside Online's reading list (which my wife will make great use of while teaching our kids at home, after she commits the inevitable theft of my new toy.)

Looking forward to drawing from all your friendly wisdom and wit in the coming weeks/months/years/until the company or batteries die!

I think you would have to go to Texas to use instruments like those.... Every thing is much bigger there

There's a joke in the dental community about how the toothbrush must have been invented in Texas because if it had been invented anywhere else it would have been called a teethbrush.

But seriously, I have many friends in Texas and they all have many teeth. It's just a joke...

I have seen photos of a case where a guy came into a clinic with a drill bit stuck in one of his teeth. People do some strange things.

Actually, I will officially be a dentist about a month from now. I'm just getting ready to take the WREB clinical exam. If anyone has any good class II or III lesions and will be in the Phoenix area in the first week of June, please send me a PM.
