Good. Hopefully somewhere around the winter holidays we'll get a chance to upgrade the battery of existing units. (I wish it could be done without sending the iLiad back to the shop!)

Looks like those who requested the battery replacement will get the V2 battery soon.

Yap, it seems like the battery replacement is on the horizon.

And i agree Adam, that Version 2.0 is a bit of an overstatement.
But i am quite interested to see, how the new backpane is doing, while scribbling.

Did any of you who requested the battery replacement ever get any confirmation? I did not. Just clicked the link and the webpage said thnx etc blah blah but no emails etc.
Oh well I will find out.
I hope you will announce when one of us gets the first mail from Irex on replace batteries.

Well, well I guess it's finally time to buy my little iLliad.
I'm very exited, even if the new battery just provides a 20% boost.

If you ask me they probably could have done some serious redesign, and implement proper power management.
I guess the next substantial redesign will come in nine months, along with vizplex tech and maybe a 10 inch screen. Let's dream.

Here's the thing:

My local dealer claims to have 25 iLiads in stock, old models, so if I buy from them, no matter what they say I'll get an old model.
So I'll probably order directly from iRex.

Yesterday I finished what will be my last ebook enduring LCD tech, my retinas are already celebrating...

I just bought one at eReader Outfitters, even though they require a date of birth to create an account. They almost lost me as a customer, but in the end I told them I was 106 years old.

Did they specify that it had to be your birthdate?

Looks like a nice upgrade, even with the 1 second refresh rate of the most likely non-Vizplex screen. I guess the only complaint that may not have been addressed is the boot time/lack of suspend and overall performance. But definitely an attractive package for reading existing content and for development. Looking forward to some reviews.

How about an upgrade path?

I know there isn't a whole lot of difference between V1 and this one, but it would be nice if they offered some form of upgrade path for us early adopters. I don't mind paying 1/2 the cost of a new one to get mine refurbed and upgraded ...

They already do with the battery replacement program. As for the updated backplane, I'm not sure how much of a difference that really makes...

Just looking a the pictures of the new iLiad back, it seems it will stay more stable on a table, as the small little "feets" are further away, than in v1.

According to the press release, that's the main reason why they redesigned the back of the reader ;-)

Shame they didn't figure that detail out on V1.
