The one, and only ONE, thing I have found issue with is there does not seem to be a 12V external battery solution for the PE.
I have a Gomadic rechargeble battery that has varying tiops for my cell phone, my IPAQ (windows mobile) and my Archos 5IT. But they all charge at 5V. That battery has saved my devices in meetings and on airplanes. If anyone at Entourage reads this thread, can I used a 5V battery to supply a trickle charge to the PE or will that negatively impact the battery? |

I know it's not much help to the PE users, but I can't recommend a second battery strongly enough for EE users. I don't think I could run out of battery life before I get back to a power source if I wanted to.
I use a Tekkeon TekCharge mobile power unit (takes 4 AAs) for pretty much everything else I have, but I don't think they have a tip that works for the EE/PE. But between the EEs longer battery life and the ability to have a second one with you for swapping, I feel like I worry even less about power than an iPad user. I understand the reasons behind a non-replaceable PE battery, but it is a shame, since the battery experience with the EE is just so good. |

Put the tip so the positive icon on the tip is aligned with "Tip" on the cable.

If I remember my electrical symbols correctly, the PE adapter is tip postive, so any other adapter you try will need to be. A universal adpater should have its polarity designated on the various tips or in the manual. Make sure the voltage matches too. Regarding STL Droid's question, below, using a 5V for a trickle charge on the PE would likely impact the battery life as it is working harder to draw the current it needs to charge. Any electrical expert out there - feel free to correct if i missed something.

If the PE is a 12 volt unit like its big brother then there is NO way a 5 volt charger is going to have any effect on it.
To charge a 12 volt battery you need at least 13.5 volts. Most phones have a 3 volt battery so the 5 volt device will charge them without problems. It is possible to charge a 12 volt battery from a lower voltage supply but it requires an electronic step up unit - not cheap, and then I would only use it in emergency. |
