I'm hoping on Monday (November 8) when enTourage officially launches the Pocket eDGe that either a Canadian retailer will have been arranged or that I'll be able to order it direct from enTourage somehow.

I almost pushed the preorder button when J&R had it listed for $349, but now at 399 429 and who knows, I decided to wait a bit. I want it, but I also want Adam so I'm a bit undecided at the moment.

I'm waiting to see if any additional info will be released about RIM's blackpad or whatever it's name is...Playbook, that's it.

I wondered where you were! You know, the edge may not be all that it could be - yet. But, it is probably the most useful piece of tech I own. I don't like to read on an LCD screen and I go to school. I rarely take anything with me anymore besides my purse and my edge; what a relief not to lug 50 pounds of books and paper! The little one seems like the ideal companion for everyday journaling/reading, but the Adam looks like pure fun. I'm sure I'll buy one - provided they ever release it of course. So far, all the other promised Android tablets seem to have disappeared in a poof of smoke. If the price on the pocket edge had not changed so many times in such a short period, I probably would have bought one too.

I'm more in the Wait-And-See camp. Since I have the big one that works fine, there's not a lot of motivation to get the small one until I can see one working in person. Maybe my wife will insist she needs one.

As I've mentioned elsewhere, I am finally with Mac again, so it's a little hard to justify a pocket edge (a) after a new macbook air purchase last week and (b) when my Nokia N810 internet tablet is still chugging and of course (c) I have a perfectly good larger version. b and c make the pocket edge a little redundant, even though I am curious as a collector of gadgets (esp. tablets).

I completely agree with Sara. Considering the expense, I could not justify the purchase of another device. In fact, I was very surprised to see how many people were considering the PE despite already owning an EE.

I'm eager to get the PE because it's smaller and will be easier to carry around casually, while the large eDGe will be the workhorse for work. Of cource, that leaves me hoping there'll be a way for me to sync content, such as my personal reading list, browser bookmarks, contacts, calendar, etc.

Gah, message board ate my reply.
Shorter version: if one moves their library to external storage, then how much is left on the physical machine? What I mean is, if you transfer your SD card to another edge, is it like being close enough to being back on your machine again? I remember vaguely an older thread that some preferences were still stored on the machine, but I also remember someone writing their company was thinking of just using the machines as shells and everyone would have their own SD cards for their own use. A micro SD card + regular full SD adapter could be *like* sync if you just move the card from machine to machine. But, totally agreed. I'd really want a way for the two devices to sync, especially for journal files which are only exportable (not copyable/moveable, right?) and for reading that I might start on one machine but then continue on another. It would be a lot easier to justify both if they worked together. |

The Library on external storage would only hold Library content, not application settings, or at least this is my understanding.
Library content, and other files like Music are easy enough to copy, but application settings less so. |

Don't worry about purchasing from HSN ...
I have been doing business with HSN for about 20 years, now. My purchases vary from "tech" items such as camcorders, Lexmark Printers, Cricut Imagine and other crafting devices to various peripherals, crafting supplies and numerous other items and I, also, purchased the Red Pocket Edge from them for my Son.
It, also, has yet to ship, although I have spent the past few days doing intensive research on this device. BTW, I also purchased the HSN 3yr. "extended protection plan" for the $39 for the peace of mind. HSN has quite a liberal return policy, whereby you can return purchases made between 10/1/10 - 12/20/10 by JANUARY 31ST OF 2011! It's a "no questions asked" return policy, so however you react to the device once you receive it, if you determine it's just not for you, you can simply return it. I purchased the "larger," 10.1" LCD tablet and 9.1" Reader PocketEdge from Amazon.com for $496.00 ... a little under $100 more than HSN's offering (and I got mine in RED, also) because I liked the additional USB Port, the greater reader screen size AND tablet size. I'm comfortable that this device will fit into my photography and crafting endeavours, provide me with excellent reading and journalling options AND being able to make various notes and save them to .PDF files and dozens of other uses I have planned for it! I will be purchasing Amazon.com's extended protection plan for this device, as well. I phoned enTourageEdge.com's tech department earlier today and found they are, indeed, working on various updates, upgrades and programs for both devices and I understand that this will, invariably, take time as this device is, by FAR, considerably beyond the cutting edge of what is currently available. For one, I cannot wait to get this device (and the smaller version for my Son) and start putting it through it's paces! I wish all who are getting either PocketEdge device well, fun and creative usage of them! |

I spoke to a PocketEdge.com tech support person earlier today and, although I purchased the "full-sized" 10.1" LCD/9.1" Reader model from Amazon.com for $496.00, I was told the batteries have to be charged within the unit, itself ... additional batteries can be purchased but must also be placed into the device and charged "internally," although this will still give you a fully-charged "back-up" battery if you are travelling or engaged in a long-distance flight.
The $60-ish cost of a new battery is reasonable, to me at least. I'm sure if you do a Google search, you may find less expensive ones to purchase. |

Thanks for the reassuring words about HSN, Spock.
Let's hope I never have to test their responsiveness with their 3 yr protection plan or extended return policy. Battery on the Pocket Edge is not customer removable (without voiding the warranty). Got that word from Entourage customer service. Hmmmm!! My Pocket Edge will arrive tomorrow, Nov 5. Should I wait until Monday, Nov 8 (official release date) before giving my thoughts and experience with it? |
