@Dontpanic and Entourage Thank you for releasing the source code
@jcase: Thank you for yours and robot's efforts and achievements.
But for pity's sake guys, publicly throwing one's teddies out of the cot doesn't make for good reading or relationships with the guys at Entourage.
We've been through the open source debate and vicinc got his account banned for his behaviour.
Let's not have another rendition.
The source code is released. Let's move forward and produce some innovative software for the Edge and its hidden hardware capabilities.

All,

As asked before, please put away the "sticks and stones" and welcome every help that come's from both sides to make the best as possible from the eDGe.

Robot and Jcase,

Please keep working together, because you can make the eDGe work the way the community likes it. ; -)

And the community is willing to help you!

Thanks,

Jos.

This is an improvement in the release of the code. They banned in the past people just for asking for this. But it may had to do with a letter they received from open source foundation?!

Barnes and Noble learned a lot from nookdevs community including their achievements like browser, games etc in the official releases. hope the edge is clever enough to do the same.

Michael,

I actively pressed it the morning of the release day. email and phone call, When that failed I made it known to the android community on twitter.

We have a large portion (NOT ALL) of the GPL code off the device, but enough to work with.

They did not ban anyone simply for asking for the code. They banned a certain poster who was posting slander against the enTourage (e.g., claiming that they were going out of business, development being done by a single Indian programmer for hire, etc) as well as other posters. Other posters who have pressed for the code (e.g., robot) were not banned nor have those who have made constructive criticism of certain policies or limitations. But the particular poster who was banned went way, WAY over the line in a way that was just plain disruptive. But fortunately that hasn't been matched before or since.

I have to agree with this one. Others have asked for the source around these parts and have not been banned. That was a simple case of being a crybaby.

My understanding is that they retained part of the customized code? also not nice that jcase had to blackmail them, however those are good news, Edge seems to go mainstream now. I am very curious which one will be first and better, community driven firmware or official one? I bet on the first one. Also their ecosystem is not a robust one now we can run B and N software on it. Once we can port anything to e-ink, their business model will suffer. I have a lot of books purchased from B and N and I like sharing between nook and edge. Market access is really a must.

27 replies out of 465 readers = "Iarge portion"?? How many "Atta boy's" do you need?

Perhaps a "+", "-" icon system along side the "Report Post" would provide better stats?

Your goals and efforts are ++. But ....
