Using the Edge as a study tool - a few observations

What I mean is that it is unusual for companies to charge different prices for the colors (less than one standard deviation means 68% or less), so I meant that well under 30% of products that I have seen (just an expression, I dont have data to back it up) charge different prices. I dont agree with doing that, and I also said that I think criticism is OK Above, in #13, Chubulor stated "Lets not criticize Entourage...." and I see no reason NOT to criticize that which seems downright WRONG....like charging for colors. Hope that explains it.

FWIW, I agree that offering additional colors for a $40 premium was a miscalculation on the part of enTourage. Perhaps they didn't anticipate the availability of Gelaskins prior to production?

I would think the colour surcharge thing has to do with the (relatively, compared to say an iPod) small numbers they're creating. I don't know much about factory costs, but I would have to think that if you're pressing a gazillion of them, it's easy enough to absorb the different costs for different casings. With the number of eDGes in production, perhaps not so much.

That was my thought when I saw the extra charge, anyway. Sure I would rather have not paid for it, but at the time of pre-order for a first-gen product, I just figured that Entourage had decided it was worth offering different colours even if small runs were expensive enough they'd have to charge the customer more.

But you're excluding all the devices that don't even offer different colors; you should be counting them as having an infinite surcharge for different colors. If I want a red iPad, no amount of money I pay is going to be enough to get it, while if I want a red Edge, I just have to pay $50 extra.

Otherwise, you're actually penalizing the Edge for being offered in different colors, instead of only being made in Midnight Blue.
