I didn't tried Hebrew, but russian characters work well on default firmware.
p.s. Checked out. Confirmed. Strange that google doesn't include Hebrew in default build. You'll need to find Droid fonts with embeded Hebrew characters first.

What should the --target value be?

target = arm
(marvell arm pxa board)
also about
#define PIXEL_COUNT (320*240)
I'm not sure what the fb2 resolution is. It can be: 828*1200 or 825*1200 or 824*1200 (different values in different logs).
bits per pixel = 8

At least I've learned that I do not have cross-compiler architectures installed on my usual dev system. I'll have to hunt around and find out what to do.

To install the market wouldn't we only need to get adb working to just push the vending.apk (as well as the other gapps) to /system/app? or does the build.prop need to be changed aswell?

You need to fake phone on EE, so you can change build.prop or try market enabler or just use the code I posted before.

Probably you will also need an apps to setup google account (so you'll be able to use apps that require google account wich not included in default EE firmware). So you'll need to find:

checkin.apk (needed for login with Google Account)
GoogleApps.apk
GooglePartnerSetup.apk
GoogleSettingsProvider.apk
MediaUploader.apk
SetupWizard.apk (for setting up your Google Account connected with your device)
Vending.apk (Android Market applicatioN)
for android 1.6
Not sure if all of those apps are really necessary. But 'cos I'm not interested in market apps, I didn't search for files and didn't tried it.
p.s. may be I wrong, but Cyanogen made alternative version of google apps, so maybe it will be easy to use.

kenjennings as far as I know EE used this crosscompiler http://www.codesourcery.com/sgpp/lit...tal/release644 (http://www.codesourcery.com/sgpp/lit...@template=lite)

Innteresting. If you can fake EE as mobile phone does that mean we can sync the google calendar and contacts from gmail? Assuming of course we can get the corresponding apks

To fake EE as mobile phone.
But anyway you need to install market.apk (or vendor.apk) 'cos there's no market app on EE.

Yes, if you'll find all necessary apps. (probably you can even download verizon's skype, but there's no point, 'cos skype use 3G instead of wi-fi and no one able to fix it yet).

For those who interested what shell and root are needed for (or think that its suck) I recomment this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...488928&page=18
There's a lot of shell scripts examples. So you can get automatic sync between PC\eDGe, better power management, playlists and many many other things.

robot- could you describe how you prepared your update.zip? I'm unable to download the file, and want to try it out.

Also, why does the rooting procedure require updating twice if I'm already on coyote? Do you know what goes wrong in the process?

It's easy... there's several files in update.zip... you'll need to extract system2.zip and add patched su (suandr) in it. Then replase old system2 with a resulted one, and add a line with chmod command in "update.sh" in the root of the file. That's it.
As for double reflash.... don't know. I root my EE on first update (badger? or what name it were?). And after that the only thing i need to do is patch "update.sh" - 'cos it reset file permission after updating.

------------------- big news -----------------------
Finally after 2 weeks of research I found the way to use e-ink, so probably I'll be able to bring web browser to e-ink screen (and many other things like this).
I'm still looking for people who can help. Android (or C) programmers needed. If there's no good programmers, probably I'll need to hire someone in my city (thanks it's not so expensive as in USA) and give him eDGe to finish a job.

Did you have to sign the zip file?

I have no idea either for twice update.
But the first rooted update.zip made serial/SKU = unknown, wifi ,e-ink can't be used.

second update solve the problem and keep suandr in /system/bin with root permission to execute (4755)

If you want to do any with system, do it with second update, no need to twice update again.

I would like to help robot but not for programming but design or debugging when there is problem, I have not enough free time during next 4 months.

Robot,

This sounds great! wish I could help you but I'm not a programmer.
But I'm not afraid of testing! And a small donation if necessary could be made.

Thanks for your efforts.

Jos.
