Killed applications return from the grave?

Sorry, I did not get around to measuring things properly. But for sure no grinding halt or any other problems.

But I had the impression that Email and Alarm Clock start running again by themselves after I killed them. I need to double check. If there is a "keep alive job" that makes sure certain applications are always up and running, then killing them would be pointless. If that's really the case we need a configuration option to permanently disable applications we don't need.

kappert, Curently I looking into installing debian http://www.saurik.com/id/10 to EE.

as for background jobs... you can't really kill anything unless rooting. The only thing, you can turn off synchronisation and delete email preference. So it'll not check for mail every few minutes.

I was unable to create loop device to mount an image:
#mknod /dev/loop0 b 7 0
#mount -o loop,noatime $sd/debian.img $mnt
mount can't setup loop device: no such files or directory

but...
#losetup: /dev/loop0
losetup: /dev/loop0: Devise or resource busy

loop0 is already in use by another mount. /dev/block/loop1 exists, but is not in use. What if you just tried to use loop1 for the mount?

Code:
/system/esi/bin/busybox losetup /dev/block/loop1 yourimagefile.img
mount /dev/block/loop1 /valid/mount/point/directory
?

Does that work?

Great, thanks for your efforts! I hope you have success - another Linux booting would be an important first step.

Big thanks for help. My error. I create loop8 instead of loop0 and seems it works. But not sure if everything is ok, 'cos seems I downloaded wrong debian image.

Surely "Back To Life" is a Soul II Soul tune, not The Cure? ;-)

Latest rooted updated http://www.filefactory.com/file/b24168h/n/update.zip
I suggest to use Better Terminal Emulator Pro in order to easy use.
After appling update run this in terminal
$ suandr
$ ash
and you'll get ash shell with root permission
From there on you can do anything.

p.s. Official notice: I doesn't recommend anyone not familiar with linux or android development to apply this update. And can't take responsability for any problem coused by this update.

Oooh! I have linux on: a desktop, two servers, two routers, an xbox, a Wii, and I have Debian and Maemo dual booting on a Nokia N810. So having a full distro on my Edge will fit in.
Would doing something like this void the warranty in regards to hardware failures?

Don't think so (as far, as I know by the law, if there's no special notice in warranty as in hardware for overclockers) So you need carefully read warranty card.

robot, speaking of which, can you check and see if entourage has built scaling into the kernel, and what the frequency range is? I would like to know if the eDGe currently throttles down when its not really being taxed. This would surely improve battery life substantially. Using the powersaving governor on my droid, I've tripled my battery life without changes to my usage patterns.
