My position is clear: you can waiting forever for an probably exelent product, but there always will new and more interesting products in the future. So I'm looking for product with good community wich always can help, which make good custom firmware, which develop new software. Threre's no monopoly in hardware novadays, and no problems to develop any software, so the only way to outcome similar products -- is opensource+sdk+developers community.

EE tech support works very good, by missing of SDK or apps source samples and closed sources which doesn't allow to recompile OS, and hidiing root prevelegies from user... all this things don't allow community to grow... and small community means no advertising in social networks, and this means small sales e.t.c.

Point well taken, I have a tendency to want the perfect product NOW, and when the perfect one isn't available (either not been made yet, or whatever), I get overly analytical of other products, I think.

Bummer, i was just thinking that if SDK was coming out soon, I might be willing to deal with the lesser interaction between screens, if I could code my own apps that would do it. At this point, it's looking like I'll be waiting, and watching, and hoping to see new hardware (come on capacitive LCD!!!)

You don't need SDK to write apps for EE. It's linux, so you compile anything you find for ARM and EPSON 3521 (eink chipset) some info here (in russian) : http://wiki.xvilka.org/index.php?tit...%D0%B4_Android
So you can port another software for e-ink, but it's harder and took more time than using SDK

The enTourage eBook store has several Android titles: http://www.entourageedge.com/catalog...at=5&q=Android. While you won't be able to debug your app on the eDGe directly (the debug mode is not available), you can still test your app in the dev VM environment, then install it on the eDGe and it should work the same there.

That'll keep you more than busy for the next 4-6 months, and when the SDK comes out you'll be ahead of the game in modifying your apps to use the eInk screen

Just a word to the wise(r)
Fair point, I've never done any android programming directly. That said, I do a lot of java dev, and I am a computer science major. I do own an android phone, so I suppose I could just do the dev there :-P

Intriguing point, ARM linux distros have a pretty significant repo (however, things using X won't work, because Android doesn't use X). Hmm....

Doing a quick browse through of the textbooks I've purchased in the past year or so, compared to what's in the store, they don't have anything I needed. Now, that said, clearly there's only likely to be more titles with time.

as far as I understand, e-ink use GTK (at least there's GTK+libglade+other libs)... so...

Disappointing that we were asked to "sign up" for a notification of when the textbook store would open.... and no such notification was ever sent, nor have I seen any announcements on the home page etc that the textbook store opened.

Now I still have to wait for enTourage to allow charging to a foreign credit card. This seems easy to fix, yet I am still waiting.

Is the eDGe anywhere in any brick and mortar stores? With technology that I'm kind of unsure of, I tend to prefer to be able to play with it. Is that possible anywhere with the eDGe? Or is it all through online ordering?

The Edge is currently being shown at various tech conferences and trade shows throughout the US (and a few places in Europe). For example, at the "Netbook Summit" in San Francisco on Monday and Tuesday of this week, Entourage had a booth with demo units available. There was a blog posting about it about a month or so ago as to where the future dates are.

Thanks for posting this link, Robot.

I'm not too familiar with Linux but the article looks fascinating and indicates just what is possible on the eDGe. The project was done using the 6in AM200 e-ink developer kit so imagine what can be done with the eDGe's 9.7in screen ! This same kit was used to demonstrate very basic animation here:
