How about at least what the kindle can do, especially pan over a landscape PDF.

"Improved, Built-In PDF Reader:
Native PDF support allows you to carry and read all of your personal and professional documents on the go. With Amazon's Whispernet service, you can send your documents directly to your Kindle and read them anytime, anywhere. Now you can add notes and highlights, use the dictionary look-up, and read password-protected PDFs. You can also magnify PDFs by viewing them in landscape mode, and zoom into any area of a PDF up to 300% and pan to easily view small print and detailed tables and graphics. You also have the option to have your PDF document converted to the Kindle format so that it reflows."

The Kindle can rotate to landscape mode for a PDF. It was the only way I could adequately read PDF files I had downloaded on my Kindle 2. Their pan and zoom features were horrible. They might be better with Kindle 3. I don't know yet.

At this point I would settle for landscape mode with annotations disabled. It is almost impossible to read a textbook with any speed in portrait mode if it is a PDF, which most are.

I agree with Cheyenne. I too would settle for landscape mode with annotations disabled.
At present, this is my biggest gripe about edge; lack of landscape mode on e-ink. I would really like to see a small software update, just addressing this one issue.

Me too, as I mentioned in my Dingo-review before. It's a request from a lot of us right from the start.

Me too, but not if that mans that annotations are out of the picture in landscape view. Only as a temporary solution.

The ability to have landscape without annotations, while coding to make annotations possible, would be better then no landscape mode at all.

I was able to have a look at the new PocketBook 903 eReader with 9'7 eInk Display at the IFA in Berlin last week. That one (comes with a wacom screen and stylus too) handles landscape quite nicely.

Wasn't able to test annotations though. They are still working on the firmware (the reader as such and TTS worked very well already).

As it has no second (colour) screen it's a different class of device, but it's nice to see other bigger devices apart from the eDGe, the Kindle DX and the old iRex.

Pricing for Europe for the 903 will be published at the Frankfurt Bookfair in October.

Rotate E-ink side

Current user requests += 1

Panning should be easily accessible. Instead of providing buttons on the corners it should be driven by the stylus.
A user should be able to select the pan tool and move the pdf in whatever direction he pleases.

Oh, wouldn't this be nice! I'd love to pan with the stylus, that would make reading big documents, with 2 or more columns much easier. I understand that the e-Ink would be slow response, but still, easier than the buttons.

It would certainly be easier than even using the bezel buttons

That feature added to rotate would help immensely when reading large PDF documents. Right now I have to read twice, once in PDF reflow and again in regular page view, to see the images charts and info that was misplaced in reflow. Really slows things down!

Many most serious russian and ukrainer programmers currently work on PocketBook firmware, so for sure it will beat Kindle and iRex on features.
p.s. PocketBook is also very small companies (70 people in total include programmers and offshore offices), and young (2years) company, but they're allready #1 in russia, and sale more than 150 000 devices quartely. And they succeed only with the help of the best firmware on the market, hiring the best programmers possible

Landscape View on E-ink side (rotatable): + 1
Landscape View on E-ink side (Rotatable) is essential.
Without this Entourage Edge is not perfect.
I recently purchased Entourage Edge, it is a good product, but this lack is very annoying for me.
Sorry for my bad English ...
