Thanks, I've got Draw and share, on my phone and had it on my Edge too. Thanks for the tip about touch pressure, I think I generally use a light touch, trying to avoid an unwanted mark or the wrong app to open. I'll try firmer.

Yep. It seems like the light taps are the ones that are doing this. The same happens with my eDGe when I use a light touch instead of a firm press

Have noticed problems as well, with/without a stylus.
Only experienced in the web browser thus far, and it will just randomly decide to detect half-way across the screen from where the actual click occurred. It is definitely not consistent, will work fine for quite awhile, and then just happens randomly all of a sudden. |

The Edge uses a resistive touch screen not capacitive. It's the same type of screen as Nintendo DS. Try using your finger on that screen instead of your stylus. You won't get very good results. Having said that, the resistive screen on the Edge is fairly responsive and accurate. Try using your finger nail with gentle tapping motion. Once you get used to it, you will find that it works really well. I have been very pleased with the touch screen performance. So much so that I don't always plug in my keyboard although it is always available. I have been playing nonstop since getting my Edge on Monday and I am extremely happy with the device. It's exactly what I have been looking for a long long time.

Before I performed the update, there were a few specific keys on the keyboard that did not respond well and were consistently off. Since the update, I've had no noteworthy problems with the LCD screen. Even before the update, I never had wildly off clicking as educator reports. Just a key away on the virtual keyboard. Now, if using the virtual keyboard or trying to hit very specific spots on the screen, I often tap with a fingernail or use a stylus. Otherwise, like for selecting icons etc., I find regular finger presses work well for me. Are a lot of people still having major problems with LCD calibration after the software update?

While I am a big fan of the eDGe, I do find the LCD responsiveness to be quite a significant problem, even after many many attempts to recalibrate the screen. I've tried various suggestions, from using stylus to tapping with fingernails, which works reasonably for navigation, but not as well for typing. I now use a physical keyboard with my eDGe most of the time. I had imagined that typing with a large virtual keyboard would be so much easier than typing on the iPhone virtual keyboard, but am actually finding the iPhone keyboard to be superior to the eDGe in terms of how fast and how accurately I can type on it. I'm even wondering if at some point I will be able to use my iphone as a bluetooth thumb keyboard to send keystrokes to the eDGe.

I think those of us who think "everything is great" with our eDGe probably don't visit the forum looking for solutions to problems we don't have. Therefore, we don't post. And that's probably a bad thing since it gives prospective buyers/current owners a decidedly one-sided view of the device. Perhaps we should start a thread called "What I Like About the eDGe" or "What Works Great on This Amazing Device" to balance things out a bit.
![]() Actually, I have had little trouble with the touch screen. The keyboard works very well for me, only rarely putting up the wrong character (I use the tip or back of my fingernail when typing). Same for touching any part of the screen with either a fingernail or the stylus. (I don't use my fingertip much, even for dragging.) Occasionally, in the browser, the screen will take a big leap I didn't intend, but it doesn't do it often enough to be a bother. Certainly with so many similar complaints there seems to be a real issue, but for whatever reason -- because I calibrated the screen at first start up, then updated the software right away, or just the luck of the draw -- my eDGe has performed exactly as expected for 9 days, regardless of what I use it for. And I love it! |

That's why I often chime in and try to help even if I'm not having the problem, so that people can have more data points. It helps to know whether it's a common issue, whether someone has already figured out a workaround or whether it's something to contact support about. It also lets prospective buyers get a sense of the likelihood they'll have to worry about that problem.
Don't get me wrong, a problem is a problem for the user and they SHOULD mention it and they deserve to get support. But if it's a rare problem, that doesn't necessarily have to influence whether or not someone decides to purchase. I know before I make a purchase, I always check out the help/support sections of the product's website and my primary goal is to figure out how much trouble people generally have and how serious these problems are. |

I occasionally notice (in landscape) the keyboard registers the key I hit -- I hear the click and see the key flash -- but the character doesn't appear in the typed input. Something randomly drops letters.

I am wondering if the software that controls both screens is having trouble juggling both screens or multitasking between the two at once! Just a novice's musings.

I truly believe it's how people are using their LCD screen. I can duplicate almost all of the problems posted here if I am not using my finger tip. Having said that, the screen isn't as good as Apple's iPAD in terms of clarity and color. Is it possible to replace the LCD screen? I would like to replace it with the upcoming Pixel Qi DIY kit. Who wants to try?

Or you could just buy a NotionInk Adam when (If !) it's made available ! Are the PixelQi screens capacitive touch by default or is that an extra component?

This touchscreen is totally frustrating. The screen jumps all.over the place. When I try and scroll it opens links and other windows. I am becoming increasingly disenchanted with this product. On the plus side the e reader works fine. But then again so does my $250 sony! Another point-why when I scroll up the page goes down and when I scroll down the page goes up? Is this not a little odd and counter intuitive?

I have the best results using the stylus even on the lcd. It's not perfect by any means, though. I am using Dolphin Browser instead of the default and it opens new pages in a new tab, making it easy to shut the ones that open by mistake. It is annoying, but the best I've come up with. Also, try to scroll where there is only text or blank space, like the edges of web sites. I've gotten better at navigating with the stylus and I don't open as many unwanted links as I used to.
For the scroll direction, it's like a piece of paper, pulling it down will cause the top to come into view, etc. It gets easier as you do it. |
