ApK, the background of the eInk Pearl is whiter. The background of the reflective TFT is greenish.

For some people, the background is more important than the text. For me, the text is more important.

Harry, have you ever seen the reflective TFT screen? To me, the eInk Pearl's text looks very washed out compared to the reflective TFT's. Of course, YMMV.

Yes, I own a K3 and a jetBook. There's no functional difference in reading. The Pearl screen is a little bit nicer than the LCD, IMO, but not enough to really notice. The LCD was clearly better than earlier generation eInk screens.

I use the K3 for anything I buy from Amazon, or that comes in mobi/prc format, and the jetBook for anything else (particularly ePub and rtf) because of the versatility of the jetBook software and the SD card.

Neither unit is worth a boot full of warm liquid for most PDFs[1], although the jetBook, even with the small screen is less bad due to the Adobe software. If I want to read PDFs, I use my laptop.

Regards,
Jack Tingle

[1] Only exceptions, PDFs formatted for a small screen, or properly tagged for reflow. Neither is common.

So, I followed your link and found for that price in USD, you get free shipping as well as the bonus Ear Light.

I then went to newegg.ca (since I live in Canada) and found the same product in CAD "on sale" for $129.99, $4.99 shipping and no bonus Ear Light.

In round numbers then, $90 USD in the US or $135 CAD in Canada. Late last week, I could purchase $1 USD for $0.985 CAD, making the comparison (approximately, excluding any taxes, etc) $90 USD in the states with bonus Ear Light, or $137 USD in Canada without the bonus (a 52.2% premium and missing the bonus)!!

O Canada, indeed!!!

</rant>

Sorry, couldn't resist,
DH

Is there some version of the Jetbook that has a 6" screen and not a 5" screen?

Jon, I don't know about the new K-12 and jetBook+.

Last year's models were all 5".

I am in the US. I guess I would not want to spend more than the current generation of eInk devices, so I guess my max would be around $150.00

I had the same question. Either 6" or 7" like the prs-950.

I watched a video and the reflective TFT technology looks very interesting. Lightning fast page turns. But I really need to see it side by side against a K3 to see how it stacks up.

On that budget, you can get a new Nook Touch or a Kindle 3. If you don't mind not having landscape or browser, go Nook Touch. for 139 I think. Kindle starts from 119. I own a Kindle and it's a fantastic ereader. A lot of value for that price.

I can. But I can't browse by folder on either device, which turns the device into a nightmare when you have a lot of books on the thing.

How many books you have?

I can organize my books on my Kindle by Collections. You just add inside the book to that collection and keep it separate by topic.

If you need a better or more powerful way, maybe you should look into Sony's eink readers, I think they Integrate better with Calibre, but those are not on your budget.

I have a K3 now and I like it. Collections are pretty good. What I want is to be able to organize by Author->Series->Title. So, if the K3 gave me nested collections, I would be happy.
