I have lent the device to several friends when they wanted to try out reading electronically for a few weeks (months). It has been quite a while since I measured battery life, but I would say it is at least 5 days of light use. You can use Sony Reader even while charging. |

I returned a K2i after 14 months because a page-turn button had gotten spongy -- it didn't fail, but those micro-switches, once they stop clicking, can fail. Amazon gave me a free replacement, even though I was out of warranty.
I have a backup battery, and they are quite easy to change on a Kindle2, so I expect years more use from my replacement. |

We've got two K1s, which we've had for quite some time (purchased new). I replaced the battery in mine, but my husband's is still on its original battery. They still look and work like new, and are used almost every day.

I would have thought that by the time the battery failed or it's charge dropped to a point which affected it's use, that most readers would be looking for an upgrade.

It's a much better idea to buy a replacement battery when you need it, rather than buying one in advance, and storing it away somewhere. |

I still use my original PRS-500 (2006?) - haven't noticed any change in the screen, still great. I replaced the battery back in early 2010 and it maintains a charge like new again. It's been handed around to different family members, until they buy a reader of their own (usually kindles), and back comes the PRS-500. Someday it will be a extremely valuable classic collectors item e-reader,

It's great to see how Amazon is so good about returning things. I have been reading a lot of good things about their customer service, it's great to see when it appears that a lot of good companies don't seem to care about their customer's satisfaction.

Coworker's K2 failed, possibly battery. Amazon offered to sell her a new K2 at $89 but that's it, or I guess she could have paid almost that much to just get the battery replaced. Her husband tried replacing it (following instructions he found on the web) but it's still not working. So she's been kindleless for a bit since she's just kind of irritated at how quickly it stopped working.

Hello
In my company the oldest one we have is a Cybook Gen3 (64 MB one!) bought in February 2008 (more then 3 years old now), still strong and still one of the best (our experience). Sony 505 bought December 2008, also no problems. Kindle Dxg bought November 2010. Main reader now for normal use, presentations, teaching and other business uses, and zero problems… Duokan in it and PDFs (academic or leisure ones) are a perfect read. Kindle reading OS for Mobipocket as Duokan is useless for Portuguese (Portuguese or others)… Best regards, |

I'm sure I saw something similar for the Sony PRS - anyone remember where that was ?

Batteries are replaceable, but if you are not familiar with the structure of kindle dx of kindle 3, it is still a little troublesome.you can follow the following steps:
1. Turn Off the device: slide the unlock keys and wait about 7 seconds until the device is turned off. 2. Remove the upper antenna cover: press the middle part of the cover and slide it upwards slightly until it is separated. It is also feasible to remove the cover with a tool. Insert a blade in between the back cover and the antenna cover then pry off the cover carefully. 3. Remove the back cover: There is a screw on both upper right part and upper left corner of the back cover. Unscrew them with a Phillips screwdriver. And then remove the back cover. 4. Replace the battery: There are two screws fastening the battery. Unscrew them, and take off the battery. Then Insert the new battery. After that, screw on the screws to fasten the battery. 5. Install the back cover: Put the back cover on the motherboard. Push it slightly upwards, until it is aligned with the two screws holes. Then screw on the screws to fasten the rear cover. After that, install the antenna cover. |
