I loved Neuromancer when it came out, but I haven't read it in years.

I'm more worried about what they do to The Caves of Steel. I didn't know they were filming that. I can see the producers meeting now:

'What do you mean, they drive around a bit and talk to some people while trying to work out who the murderer is? That's just talking heads. No one's going to pay money for that. Where are the special effects? Where are the explosions? Can we have a car chase? It worked in I Robot. And how about making the robots the size of Transformers? Why don't we make them run amok and destroy a small city? Why don't we make this R Daneel Olivaw character more like Robocop or The Terminator? And where's the guy with Parkinsons' who does the shakey cam stuff? That'll liven it up.

In my general experience, how much you like a movie is inversely proportional to how much you liked the novel it was based on.
I fully agree, with the only exception I remember being The Perfume. Loved the book, loved the movie.
And I never read Neuromancer, then I'll do so soon! Thanks for the recommendation! :-)

I thought Gibson had already horribly desecrated Neuromancer simply by writing it?

Great book. A true classic. Hope it doesn't star Will Smith. Elijah Baley is far, far better than that

LOTR should have been 6 (shorter) films, like it is six books. It would have saved all that jumping around between characters.

Neuromancer's a good book, but I feel, at least with early Gibson, his books don't totally make sense, or if they do, they happen so fast it's hard to make sense of them. I don't know how that will translate to the screen.

What I'd like to see is a Hollywood epic of Consider Phlebas by Iain Banks. And have everyone die at the end

That's just...adorable.

I am a big William Gibson fan which means I am expecting to be disappointed by the film. I think Virtual Light might make a good film.
