in my opinion yes, the sony ereader is a good reader and the galaxy s will work fine. imho the only real weakness to the sony ereader isnt the device itself its the horrid library organizing software it uses.
ALOT of people use CALIBRE to move thier books onto thier sony reader. it was origionally made because sony's library system sucked so bad. now calibre has a life of its own and can do many other things besides sideloading and organizing books you should go try it out. there is a section here on calibre if you wanna take a look at them. Good luck and have fun with your ereader! |

Yes, I've been familiarizing myself with Calibre, it should be fairly simple to use by the time the 350 is in my hands (which should take a couple of weeks at least). Hopefully, by the end of the week I'll have the galaxy already.

Don't under value the Jetbook Lite. Replaceable batteries are priceless. Have two sets and you have all you need. If you read fiction and color is not an issue then the JBL screen is the best. No flashing, no artifacts, screen burn. No eyestrain, battery sucking back lighting. The JBL screen has good contrast and may be better than e-ink at particular font sizes.
And look, Ectaco has been around ten years. They are not here today and gone in six months. They continuely developed the firmware 'till where it is almost rock solid. And there is alot of support for it. Important things to consider. Joe |

I need to choose an ebook reader for my father who has vision issues and therefore button problems. I am interested in getting an ebook reader even though he does not like them bec he is an avid reader of books magazines and newspapers but is limited by the type size. It is becoming a real difficulty to find things in large type-believe it or not-and all that is in large type is old lady books like typical poliflax, alexander mcall smith or pd james and other mysteries. There is a real narrow field of the books that will have large type.
This being said, the clear type/ contrast is the most important and the clear easy usage of the buttons is important. the buttons can't be too small and hard to see/ handle. Please give me a suggestion that would help those with vision problems or older people. -Thanx |

I can believe it. Putting out large print books is expensive and they are heavy.
The Kindle has easy to use buttons and test to speech. The text to speech could become more valuable if he continues to lose his eye sight because the Kindle can read him books that are not available as audiobooks that he is interested in. I got my Mom a DXG because the larger screen, while heavier, holds more words when she uses the larger font size. I also think that the 5 way joystick is easier for her to use then the directional pad. I think all of the e-readers can increase the font size. All of them are going to involve some type of buttons. Even touch screens. Touching the screen requires some degree of precision and dexterity. It could be that the Sony's work better for him because touchscreens are more forgiving. |

When my wife was having problems seeing to read, she tried by Kindle. I bumped up the font size a couple of notches, and she was sold. She ordered hers that day.
The Kindles and the Sony are the two current models that have Pearl e-ink, and that is clearly the best of the screens for clarity and contrast. The buttons on the Kindle are comfortable to use and easy to locate and differentiate. Haven't had my hands on the Sony, so can't comment. |

In addition to your download of the Kindle reader I would recommend that you also download readers from Barns and Nobles, Borders, Kobo and Mobi Pocket. More downloaded readers = more choice of electronic stores to buy from.

Ah, good to know. Wasn't paying close enough attention, I guess. Thanks for the correction.
