Always!
Winters are way too long, cold and dark up here in the frozen North to be reading inside once the snow is gone. For me, the biggest reason why an LCD screen won't work outside is because the content on the screen is virtually impossible for me to read from behind polarized sunglasses. Eink, on the other hand is not impacted by my shades. I think my back deck, a couple beers and my 650 are calling my name after work... Last edited by AlbertaCowboy; 05-11-2011 at 12:09 PM. |

I chose "frequently" but that will change as the weather goes from "nice" to "hot", and it's either early or late when the sun isn't as strong. You won't find me perched directly under the sun at noon.
![]() If I go out to read at other times of the day, I hit the back porch while it's shaded, or plop my chair down under the hackberry tree. |

Almost always when I lived in SoCal. The bus stops rarely had covering and I usually read between buses.

Standing, outside, waiting for the train to downtown. If the sun is out in Chicago (not as much as I would like) it is sunny in the morning and at night (I read for the 3 minutes waiting to cross the tracks). I pulled out my phone this morning, just curious to check my emails, and put it back. Too hard to read in sunlight. With my shades on.

I have a side job driving limousines and drive a lot of "wine tour" gigs so I frequently
-Pick up clients -Drive to vineyard -Wait an hour or two -Drive to next vineyard rinse and repeat. As such I have a lot of time out in the vehicle waiting and the best activity I know of under those circumstances is to read ![]() |

Never - Direct sun is bad for your skin and your eyes. If you want to read outside look for some shade.

On buses and trains were you cannot control the reading environment you can often get direct sun light. I dislike being in the sun so these are the common situations were I read in direct sun light.

Only by accident, sunlight does nasty things to my skin. (The shade ran away while I was lost in the story or I was reading while strolling and ran out of shade).

This week was the first time it was warm enough to be able to read outside since last fall. I read in the sun often during the summer.

If I'm reading outside, chances are good I'm in direct sunlight.
I wear sunscreen daily. I like the way the book looks in direct sunlight better than in the shade, though, but I like being in the shade if it's hot. |

It depends on what you call direct sunlight. I don't often read with sunlight actually falling directly on my Kindle. I do however read while I'm in the car waiting for this or that. My phone is pretty unusable if it's sunny outside, but there's no problem with my Kindle.
