If you find such a comic, mature and open minded and it represents the level
of "data" that provides for your "being informed", then so be it. As it is, I prefer
to exercise a different criteria.

Luck;

You can now, for the ones used in the book, which has just been delivered from the printer.

After all, the free market will take care of all of this - if 200 people die because of a contaminated drug, well, maybe in future people won't buy from that company.

The 1994 Northridge earthquake in Calif. caused 33 deaths. The 2010 earthquake in Haiti caused 300,000 deaths. The primary difference is the strict earthquake building codes in California. These were not enacting with the idea of enriching building inspectors - it's not like the building inspectors passed the law in the first place.

And of course cell phone carriers were falling all over each other to offer number portability before it was required. Oh, wait, no they weren't.

This discussion has already turned very political so I won't say more than that I agree with your analysis.

This thread actually gives me the opportunity to post a link to an article in the latest issue of Smithsonian Magazine. I've been awaiting the next new property rights discussion to come up in order to have the appropriate excuse. I knew that it would not be long on this forum.

Thanks for the links, I will say that earthquake building codes are only as good as the people who choose or do not choose to follow them, we could very easily have a global earthquake code, and in fact we do, why don't some nations follow these regulations???

One reason is lack of skill, how to obtain the needed skills to build earthquake proof buildings?? Or rather how to get people with the earthquake proofing skills to the places where earthquake proof buildings need to be built??

A bit more abstractly, why don't we all just live in small huts, or caves?

Sounds as if the author disregards people's artist right to make money off of their work. Good guy...

It may sound as if that is the case, but it is not actually the case. Perhaps your ears are bit stuffy?

We are all free to compensate whomever we wish to for their art, just as we are entitled to all art pre-compensation.

There is no artist's right to make money off one's work. There are no laws that say, "I made this, therefore you must pay me." There are, rather, laws that say "if you make something, you're allowed to control some aspects of how it's used for a while, in exchange for turning it over to the public eventually."

There's still no right to a profit. There's only a right to *attempted* profits, and some restrictions on other people's abilities to make profits.

I was just gonna leave a picture, but I tough that it might be a little too offensive, and anonymous. And for a matter of fact, didn't want to break any copyright from the author of said image. So I'm just going to type it:

Don't know if troll, or just stupid.

offtopic: are we entitled for post-art compensation due to bad art? (and don't give me that "there is no such thing as bad art"...)

Is anyone reading the book?

So, is anyone reading the book, or only the newly resurrected off topic arguing?

The book is irrelevant, it is only the thought of the book that matters.
