Oh yeah... the (mostly) is because I only have about 2200 books on my nook. My entire eBook library, every single book acquired through legitimate channels.
I use Calibre, but not the others. I am especially frustrated because my series do not show up on my Color Nook as they did on my iPad. Running 1.2, I am not rooted but am willing to do so. Can you provide a link to the other programs you referenced?

I have no idea whether trook is available for the Color Nook, 'cause I use an original eInk nook. However, it's one of the apps you get as part of the rooting from the nookdevelopers folks.

Calibre2opds is most easily found by looking at the sticky thread in the 'catalogs' sub-forum of the Calibre forum here on mobileread.

Their supposed to be organized?

Seriously though, on my Kindle it's pretty simple. I have

Games and Apps
Writing
Guides and Dictionaries
Vegan, for cookbooks
Fiction Samples
Non-Fiction Samples

This is just for stuff I want to permanently have access to (except for samples obviously). Everything else falls onto the main page. Since I keep all my ebooks either in Calibre or at Amazon, as I read things I delete them from the main page.

Oh, and sorry for intruding into nook land . I didn't realize this was a nook specific thread.

What is Calibre? I recently bought Nook Color and love it. I have only a few books on it so far and have shelves for genre and finished reading.

You can view MobileRead's main forums page and scroll down to calibre in the E-Book Software section. [Calibre is an open-source library manager to view, convert and catalog e-books. Cross-platform (Linux, Windows and OS X)]

A great place to start learning about calibre is to view the sticky threads (threads at the top of the forums) New to calibre? Start Here and Video Tutorials. kovidgoyal (creator of calibre) frequents the forums on MobileRead.

The only real solution, for me, was to root the nook. This solved all the B&N self inflicted problems. If that can't be done for some reason, the Kindle works perfectly right off the shelf with a little program that helps move files onto collections. Better contrast as well.

I rooted and installed File Manager by Nomad. I have Calibre sync books over in the following folder structure: Author Sort\Series\Series Number - Title

I keep seeing folks talking about rooting - what does that mean, how do you do it and what are the results of doing it?

Rooting a Nook involves re-writing the basic software to allow the addition of numerous applications that solve Nook's problems and some new things not available with Nook. Some info here. There is additional info here but a lot of their information is out of date. It is hard to find anything current now as the advent of the color model pulled a lot of hackers away from the classic.

The main advantage, essential for me, was the ability t use nook library which solved all the file problems nook insisted on sticking us with.

Can you elaborate on how you do this? Do you put the series number in the file name, or is there some other way to get them in series order after they're transferred to the reader?

Thanks!

apologies to the OP - didn't want to hijack the thread, but wanted to respond:

'upgrading' one's Nook Simple Touch is a simple process, but can be intimidating... whatever you do, BACK UP FIRST! create an 'image' of your Nook STR's internal 2GB storage BEFORE screwing around! that way you can confidently restore your reader to 'normal'

the cool thing about 'upgrading' one's Nook STR is that it appears to be normal, but with a simple tap on the right side of the touchscreen, you'll be transported to an Android GUI desktop w/a nice browser (Opera), app search/install tool (Market), and various utilities, such as a calculator, or fabulous games, such as chess, backgammon, solitaire, etc.

plus, the Aldiko reader app allows you to read in landscape mode...

and after futzing with the 'droid experience, a simple tap transports you back to the BN GUI!

the Nook STR is a fabulous 'droid tablet that is also an ereader - or is it a fabulous ereader that is also a 'droid tablet?

I just bought a Nook ST to read along side of the Nook Color I bought a few months ago....
I love the Nook Color and I like the way my library is organised by folder containing all the books by that author and the authors by surname alphabetically. Unfortunately I can't get the Nook ST to display that way as it wants to show a little book outline and every book aphabetically (EVERY book!).

Does this work for NC? Because i can get my STR and classic nooks to display series title first, but not my nook color. It drives me crazy!
