I've been trying out the apps Penultimate, Notes Plus and Noteshelf with a Griffin pen now. Overall, I think Noteshelf is the nicest. I like the functionality in Notes Plus where you can select and rearrange text, and the keyboard is great, but the handwriting didn't look so well, even after smoothing. And this might sound odd, but my handwriting simply seems to flow better in Noteshelf. I write with a hasty, loopy longhand, which seems to be difficult for handwriting apps to pick up. The zoom function is not bad once you get used to it - but that was much the same in Notes Plus and Noteshelf.
And I haven't forgotten Penultimate. The line looks great while writing, but the end result somehow is not quite as readable as Noteshelf. The other two apps also had "wrist protection", which allows you to rest your hand on the screen. All in all I'm quite excited by the hand writing apps. I'll try to use it for note taking at work. I'm working on clearing my desk of paper, and my small notes is really the only serious paper use I have left. |

@Ea: you think Noteshelf is the best then?
I didnt try it yet, I installed instead smartNote, Note Taker HD and Notes Plus. Up to now, Notes Plus is my favorite (slightly above Note Taker HD), but I have some issues with its ability to recognize small pen segments, as dots, commas etc. You think that Noteshelf is better in this regard? Also, I read that Noteshelf's page is a bit small, compared to alternative programs. Do you agree? no answers yet - so I just add a note, having just installed the (free) UPad Lite: the BEST app from the point of view of responsiveness to pen input Last edited by alexxx; 05-17-2011 at 10:25 AM. |

New styli are now available. I do like this one which has a normal pen in it too.

![]() 1 is the soft round tip styli. ![]() 2 is the hard tip flat styli ![]() 3 is the soft flat tip styli. ![]() I use type 1 most (because it;s also a normal pen). It's accurate and feels natural. But it requires you to learn the correct pressure. With practice you can do pinpoint drawing. Just like a felt marker with little ink left. Type 2 is even more sensitive, but you need to use use the correct angle AND you can't pinpoint. It's as if you're using a large calligraphy pen. I think that with practice you can get the best result with this type. Write FAST I mean. I dislike type 3. It's not sensitive, is not pinpointable, and you have to press quite hard. |

Minor detail given the price, but is the ink cartridge/barrel of type 1 replaceable? I'm not too keen on having to place an order whenever the ink runs dry!
ETA: Anyone have an opinion on the iFaraday? The tip material looks like it will work pretty well. I'm still waiting for my iPod Touch to arrive (it's out for delivery this very moment!), but I already have my Otterbox Defender case. The built in screen protector seems to have a bit of a "stick" to it, so I'm keen to find a stylus that works well with it. Last edited by stickybuns; 06-27-2011 at 12:21 PM. |

well, yes it's replaceable. With a normal pen filling.
(although I haven't used up a ballpoint ink in like 20 years) |

I went ahead and ordered the iFaraday (reviews are good and I like supporting the local economy).
So far, it's pretty nice. If I can figure out how to post a screen shot, I will. Edited to add: ![]() Last edited by stickybuns; 07-01-2011 at 05:23 PM. |
